Design Your Own Cultural Experience This Summer with Hilton Brisbane

Hilton Brisbane

Hilton Brisbane is reinforcing its support of Brisbane's thriving cultural scene by supporting the Queensland Art Gallery |Gallery of Modern Art, and the launch of its two major exhibitions California Design 1930-1965: Living in a Modern Way and Cai Guo-Qiang: Falling Back to Earth, by inviting guests to design their own cultural experience with their stay throughout summer.

The hotel's Culture in the City accommodation package which includes overnight accommodation for two in a Hilton Guest Room, breakfast the following morning in the hotel's 'Chefs Hatted' restaurant Vintaged Bar + Grill and tickets to California Design 1930-1965: Living in a Modern Way  and Cai Guo-Qiang: Falling Back to Earth from $255 per room per night twin share, the package will allow guests to choose to see either exhibition or make a weekend of it and see both.

The landmark exhibitions open in November 2013, starting with California Design 1930-1965: Living in a Modern Way direct from Los Angeles County Museum of Contemporary Art (LACMA) opening on November 2. The exhibition will feature the first Barbie doll, classic Levi Strauss 501 jeans, innovative furniture by Charles and Ray Eames and the unmistakeable film posters of Saul Bass are among the works featured in this major exhibition of mid-20th century Californian design on display at the Queensland Art Gallery.

November 23 sees the opening of this year's most anticipated exhibition exclusive to Brisbane, Cai Guo-Qiang: Falling Back to Earth.  Over the past 25 years, Cai Guo-Qiang has held solo exhibitions at some of the world's most prestigious art institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum in New York and this being his first solo exhibition in Australia.  Falling Back to Earth' features three major installations, including two newly commissioned works directly inspired by the landscapes of southeast Queensland, which the artist visited in 2011. The centrepiece of the exhibition ---- Heritage 2013 ---- features 99 replicas of animals from around the world, gathered together to drink from a blue lake surrounded by pristine white sand, reminiscent of the lakes of Moreton Bay's islands.

California Design 1930-1965: Living in a Modern Way  is showing from November 2 - February 9 2014 and Cai Guo-Qiang: Falling Back to Earth from November 23 2013 - 11 May 2014.

With the festive season and summer holidays just around the corner the time is perfect for a summer sojourn to the city; like California, Brisbane shares the similar climate and impulse towards outdoor living so Hilton is encouraging everyone to embrace your inner designa-phile and head to the city and soak up the sub-tropical climate, and immerse yourself in the city's buzzing cultural scene. Hilton Brisbane is ideally located a short walk across to the river to the Gallery of Modern Art and Queensland Art Gallery.
