Luxury self-catering provider, Unique Homestays, reacts to the government's Covid roadmap and shares some key trends for post-lockdown escapes.
Despite the news that Easter holidays will not be able to proceed, the end of travel restrictions is now in sight, with self-catering breaks set to resume from April 12th, according to the latest government announcement.
As demand for staycations continues to soar, Unique Homestays have reached 91% occupancy for June, with limited availability remaining for summer. Properties in Cornwall and Dorset as well as secluded and popular coastal spots have proved to be the most sought-after destinations.
The company's focus now lies on finding unique homes to add to their exclusive portfolio, as Unique Homestays step up their search for the UK and Ireland's most remarkable properties, a referral reward of £1000 has been put in place for those who recommended homes that join.
The combination of renewed confidence in domestic holidays along with continuing uncertainty surrounding overseas travel looks set to see the trend for British staycations grow at an exponential rate. Following Monday's announcement, the company saw a 114% increase on accommodation enquiries overnight.
Looking ahead, Unique Homestays expect to see further interest for private catering and in-house guest experiences, which allows for less interaction with the public in what will be an inter-Covid era. This is anticipated further as more 'elite' travellers stay close to home, with more money being spent on domestic travel. Unique Homestays have seen their average booking price increase by almost 30% since 2019, currently at £3023 per break.
As the countdown for the hospitality industry begins, Unique Homestays plan for the reopening of their homes.
Francesca Reed, Head of Brand at Unique Homestays:
“The announcement means we can create a plan for our owners, mapping out the safe reopening of their homes. Self-catering holidays support many other sectors, and their return will boost varying markets. Somewhere like Cornwall, for example, relies on tourism. The beauty of a private holiday home is that guests can travel by car, enjoying private spaces, facilities and even chefs should they wish; it is a much safer way to enjoy a new location. We are anticipating this summer to be our busiest yet, which will be great for the economy at large. It has been a tough 12 months for most, but Unique Homestays are looking forward to welcoming more staff and homes to help cater for the demand.”
