Europe's most popular sports destination resort, La Manga Club, has responded to the growth in UK cycling participation with new packages aimed at offering keen cyclists the chance to get into the saddle on holiday.
The Spanish resort's new 'Best Bike & More' packages start at only €231 per person for three nights and provide guests with a choice of state-of-the-art road or mountain bikes to use during their stay with a series of group or guided rides available.
The bikes are provided by the well-established Biking La Manga company, which also runs three popular weekly group road rides from the resort. There are two evening group rides (Monday and Wednesday) and the Saturday Grupetto, which in recent weeks has grown to a peloton of about 150 cyclists. There are also has a multitude of mountain bike trails on its doorstep suited to varied category of rider.
The group rides have been joined in recent weeks by several notable professional cyclists, including top Spanish rider and Murcian son Alejandro Valverde, who finished eighth in this year's Tour de France and has previously won the Vuelta a España, which starts on August 24 in Vilanova de Arousa.
Murcia is the ideal destination to swap pot holes and puddles for smooth roads and more than 300 days of sunshine per year, and La Manga Club provides the ideal base with a range of accommodation, restaurants and leisure activities.
The new packages also include complimentary access to the fitness centre, indoor pool, sauna and steam rooms at Spa La Manga Club, and guests can choose to exchange one day's cycling for golf, tennis or spa treatments.
Three-night packages at the four-star Las Lomas Village cost €231 per person in November or €282 in September and October based on sharing a deluxe twin room. Upgrades to the five-star Principe Felipe hotel will cost an additional €38 per person per night in November and €30 per night in September and October. Prices include breakfast and tax.
