Cycling Events In Savoie Mont Blanc

There are 68 passes and remarkable climbs in Savoie Mont Blanc. Between 16 June and 24 August, 14 of them will be dedicated to cycling and will be closed to cars in the morning, so cycling enthusiasts can practice their sport safely. In its 3rd year, 1 jour, 1 col attracts more and more participants. When the event is on a Sunday, it is also opens to e-bikes.

Like last year, it starts with the Relais du Mont du Chat. The 2013 1 jour, 1 col includes two new passes: Salève and Galibier. Entertainments are organised around each climb.

There is no need to register, it is open to anyone and is free.

100th Anniversary of the Tour de France

The Savoie Mont Blanc’s stages of the 100th Tour de France are going to be spectacular. On 19 July, during the Bourg d’Oisans – Grand Bornand stage, competitors will cover 204km and climb four passes: Glandon, la Madeleine, Tamié, l’Epine and Croix Fry. On 20 July, Annecy – Annecy Semnoz, the last stage before the final, will be 125km of pure suspense until the arrival of the winner at the top of the Semnoz climb, which is 8.5%.

New for 2013: La Fête du Tour, on 15 June. Cyclists can cycle the 2013 Tour itineraries.

19-21 May

The Giro d’Italia comes to Valloire.

Starting from Cesena Torinesse, this legendary stage of the Giro d’Italia will end at the top of the Galibier pass, via Susa and the Télégraph pass (1,570m). The famous Col du Galibier (2642m) will be climbed by its north face, the most difficult one. Spectacular show guaranteed.

2 – 9 June

65th Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré

Ch'tel / Valmorel / La Léchère

The famous road cycling race will start from Champéry, Switzerland, and will be in Ch'tel on 3rd June. Cyclists will then go to the Ain department, and will be back in Savoie Mont Blanc, in Valmorel. On the 7th, they will start from La Léchère.

 

8-9 June

10th Time Megève Mont Blanc

The Time Megève Mont Blanc is a sportive that takes place every year in a fun and friendly atmosphere and attracts over 2,000 cycling enthusiasts. This year there is a choice of three new itineraries:

85km with 2,100m of difference in altitude

105km with 2,680m of difference in altitude

133km with 3,500m of difference in altitude

13 to 16 June

15th Tour des Pays de Savoie

For its 15th anniversary, Le Tour des Pays de Savoie itinerary highlights the most beautiful roads and passes of the Savoie and Haute Savoie departments. Known as one of the most difficult amateur races, Le Tour des Pays de Savoie 2013 has four stages:

13 June: Ch'tel – Passy

14 June: Chambéry – Solaison Plateau – Fauciny-Clières

15 June: Thorens-Glière and Valmeinier

16 June: St Michel de Maurienne and La Toussuire, which hosts the final arrival

10th Cyclosportive Morzine Vallée d’Aulps

The cyclosportive Morzine Vallée d’Aulps is known for being a fun and friendly amateur race. Cyclists have the choice between two itineraries, both start from Montriond and end in Morzine:

Le Petit Parcours, 110km, with 2,500m of positive difference in altitude

Le Grand Parcours: 160km, with 3,900m of positive difference in altitude

5-6 July

La Marmotte, la Mi-Marmotte and la Rando des Marmotte – Valloire

La Marmotte is a sportive which links Bourg d’Oisans to Alpe d’Huez via the most famous climbs and passes. Cyclists can now choose between two itineraries.

La Mi-Marmotte, on 6 July, is a 76km itinerary between Valloire and Alpe d’Huez with 2500m of difference in altitude

La Rando des Marmottes, on 5 and 6 July is a 174km itinerary with 5000m of difference in altitude and a stopover night in Valloire.

 

7 July

L’Etape du Tour Annecy – Semnoz

The Etape du Tour is a great event which allows cycling enthusiasts to cycle the same itineraries as the Tour de France champions, in the same conditions. The 2013 Etape is a loop in Savoie Mont Blanc and the Parc Naturel Régional des Bauges.  Starting from Annecy, cyclists will then climb the Col des Prés, cross Chambéry, then will head back to Annecy via La Féclaz, and arrive at the top of Semnoz.

19th Stage of the Tour de France

The Tour de France competitors will arrive in the Grand-Bornand, which is a ville-etape for the 6th time. Cyclists will climb the spectacular Col de la Croix Fry in Manigod before arriving in Le Grand Bornand.

4th Le Tour du Mont-Blanc cyclo by Odlo in Les Saisies

Le Tour du Mont Blanc is a challenging amateur race : 330km, 8000m ascent route. It takes its participants through Megève, Saint Gervais, Chamonix, the Col des Montets, Martigny, the Col du Grand Saint Bernard, Aoste, the Col du Petit Saint Bernard, Bourg Saint Maurice, the Cormet de Roselend, Beaufort, and finally the Col des Saisies.

Participants can do it solo or in relay team.

 

21July

10th Cyclosportive de la Madeleine

The Cyclosportive de la Madeleine is a 107 or 134km race in the heart of the Maurienne Valley. The race celebrates its 10th anniversary with an exceptional itinerary. Cyclists will start from St François Longchamp then head to La Combe de Savoie and the Col de Cucheron before attacking the hair-pin bends of Montvernier. The race will then take them to Le Col de Chaussy and finish on the legendary Col de la Madeleine.

20th August

Haute Route

Val d’Isère will welcome a stage of the Haute Route, which takes place from 18 to 24 August. The 3rd Haute Route covers 866km and 21,000m of verticals. 600 cyclists from 35 different coutries will take part.
