The countdown is officially on, with Cruise Whitsundays announcing that they will move their operations to their brand new, custom built maritime terminal at Port of Airlie from 6 September.

Construction commenced on the $15m state of the art terminal in February this year. It will feature convenient airport style check-in and baggage conveyor belts, a large café with indoor and outdoor eating areas, a gift shop and comfortable seated waiting areas.

Chief Executive Officer Nick Hortle said it was an exciting time for Cruise Whitsundays.

“Our new maritime terminal sets new standards for the marine tourism experience in the region, with seamless operations flowing from check in to departure, and for our arriving guests,” Mr Hortle said.

“This is a truly impressive welcoming statement for tourists to the area, and an excellent base for launching day cruises and resort connections from the mainland,” he said.

“We believe the new terminal will benefit everyone in the region.”

The current timetable will not change – simply replace any Abell Point Marina arrivals/departures with Port of Airlie.  Shute Harbour operations will remain as they are now.

“With Port of Airlie being so conveniently located in the centre of town, it will be an easy walk for our guests from most Airlie Beach hotels and accommodation,” Mr Hortle said.

“However there is also easy access to the bus stop, bus terminal, taxi access, and a new 170 space car park right next to our terminal building,” he said.

“We have also greatly improved many safety aspects of our operation – notably the luggage trolleys will operate on a separate jetty ramp from our guests.”

Cruise Whitsundays administration staff will move into the terminal the week prior.

“We'd like to thank the general public in advance for their support of our move to Port of Airlie, and for their patience as we move what is a large and complex operation – there will no doubt be some issues to iron out so we thank you in advance for your understanding,” Mr Hortle said.

“It will be worth it – this is a very exciting time for the Whitsundays tourism industry!” he said.
