Crown's Floral Fantasy

Taking centre-stage in Crown�s Atrium this spring will be a stunningly unique floral exhibition. From 4 -17 October 2004, five specially constructed, oversized installations incorporating over 100,000 individual fresh flowers will be on display to the public.

Set against the dramatic black marble of the Atrium and incorporating Crown�s unique water features, some of the world�s most exotic feathered creatures including flamingos, peacocks and cranes will be presented in a distinctive floral display of colour and creativity.

�Imagine a creature with wings of petals, a beak of tiger lilies and a tail of moth orchids,� says Christian Wagstaff, Crown�s Creative Director whose inspiration for this distinctive display came from the techniques and traditions of the annual Rose Parade in Pasadena, California and thus far, unmatched in Australia.

�This will be a show of theatrical proportions,� he promises. A team of 20 florists has been assembled to decorate the steel, foam and fibreglass structures, some measuring over three metres in height, with specially constructed water containers within, ensuring that the blooms will retain their vibrancy and vitality for the duration of the show.

�Just as every part of those Californian floats have to be covered with flowers or other natural materials such as leaves, seeds, or bark, so too will our glorious floral fantasies be created entirely out of fresh flowers and other natural products,� Christian explains.

Transcending a traditional flower show, the exotic creations will be a breath-taking delight of colour, fragrance and texture showcasing such floral blooms as Henri Matisse roses, Singapore orchids, yellow Asia lilies and frangipanis.

The Atrium�s internationally renowned crystal ceiling combined with ambient lighting and specially arranged classical music will enhance this sensory experience, which will be free to the public and on display all day, every day.
