Crowne Plaza Hobart

The new-build Crowne Plaza Hobart opened its doors on 1 July 2020, welcoming a wealth of sustainable innovations and initiatives to reduce its footprint while enhancing the guest experience. From bamboo keycards to an 'edible precinct' in partnership with Macquarie Point, Crowne Plaza Hobart has placed green practices at the heart of its DNA, complemented with its new modern design, technology and flexible public spaces.

A product of the global social climate, Crowne Plaza Hobart has proved that the guest experience is not impacted when a hotel tries to limit its own, and that hotels can strive for more than sensor lights and recycling practises when rising to the social responsibly.

Under the lead of General Manager, Linda Collis, Crowne Plaza Hobart has applied an ethical lens to each touchpoint of the hotel, supported by employees who embody this mission and carry out their role by complying with a no plastic and limited paper ideology, as well as other green initiatives.

“We're so proud of the hotel experience we have created here at Crowne Plaza Hobart and cannot wait to unveil the many design elements that will usher in a new standard of travelling, ” said Linda Collis.

“In previous years the hotel landscape has been notorious for waste and unsustainable processes, which is why Crowne Plaza Hobart hasn't missed a single opportunity to reduce our impact, supported by the progressive Green Engage program of IHG.”

Crowne Plaza Hobart's three dining concepts (core restaurant and bar, THE DECK and in-room dining) have also been designed in this green glow, with Head Chef, John Churchill, delivering a holistic dining experience that explores sustainable practices and waste mitigation through culinary creation.

Crowne Plaza Hobart, in conjunction with IHG's Green Engage program, has accomplished the following sustainable initiatives to achieve carbon reduction targets:

- Bamboo key cards
- ORCA food waste technology in kitchens
- An all-digital experience in-room, eliminating the majority of plastic and paper collateral
- Additional IHG points for less room servicing (IHG Greener Stay Program)
- Bulk amenities in guestroom to eliminate small single-use containers
- No plastic straws in hotel
- Digital business cards and E-signature technology for a paperless contracting process
- Sustainably sourced produce suppliers
- Monthly monitoring, recording and optimising of energy and water (IHG Green Engage program)
- Recording monthly general waste and disposables as well as recyclable waste (IHG Green Engage program)

With every Crowne Plaza Hobart stakeholder dedicated to this mission, the hotel will continue to explore avenues that challenge outdated thinking and welcome sustainable innovation.
Crowne Plaza Hobart is a 235 room hotel located in the city's central business centre, in close proximity to major government and commercial offices and shopping precincts. The city's renowned Salamanca Place and Constitution Dock at the capital's waterfront are also a stone's throw from the hotel. Offering a connected stay with touch-pad controls and boutique amenities, the hotel features touches of timber as a nod to Tasmania's forestry history. The hotel also offers six dynamic event spaces and a rooftop bar boasting panoramic views of the city, Mount Wellington and the harbour.
