LES SOEURS ANGLAISES BY WOMEN FOR WOMEN
Established as the 'go-to' destination for anyone with a passion for improving or learning a textile crafts-based skill , Les SoeursAnglaises (LSA) – situated in a stunning location inSouth West France – is delighted to announce its 2015 residential workshop schedule and an exciting new collaboration with Women for Women International.
In addition to the workshops, LSA is planning a Gourmet Boogie Woogie four day weekend featuring International pianists including Deanna Bogart, and a celebrity gourmet chef (whose identity will be revealed once formalised). Profits from the weekend – as well as a sum for each confirmed participant on the workshops and all monies from the sale of Share the cookbook (available to buy at LSA) – will be donated to Women for Women International (WfWI). LSA is currently sponsoring a year long WfWI training course in Sudan, a country in which two of the Les Soeurs were born.
“We are delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile charity as Women for Women with which we have so much synergy, both as a business run by women and as specialists in textiles, a sector in which many of the WfWI participants are being trained. Most importantly, WfWI offer their participants the skills to provide them with a sustainable future” says Katie Elliott Armitage, founder of LSA.
Les Soeurs Anglaises provide the skills to transform basic materials into covetable heritage pieces under the guidance of experts such as the renowned artist India Flint who describes herself as “botanical alchemist, working traveller, dreamer, writer, gatherer, wayfarer and the original discoverer of the eucalyptus ecoprint”. Equally recognised is Julie Arkell - whose compelling and naïve creatures are hand-built and adorned with found objects, knitted accessories and a dose of British humour – and acclaimed textile storyteller, Janet Bolton. A workshop with a top knitwear designer, a Sewing workshop with Islington's much loved Ray Stitch and an Open Workshop/Yoga Week complete the scheduled workshops for 2015.
