Cox & Kings Launches First Brochure To Canada & Alaska

Cox & Kings Travel Ltd

Cox & Kings has launched its new brochure dedicated to Canada and Alaska. The collection features a range of non-exclusive group trips, rail journeys, cruises, self-drive holidays and suggestions for tailor-made holidays. Stretching over six time zones, Canada is renowned for its spectacular wilderness, abundant wildlife, cosmopolitan cities and diverse cultures. An 11-day self-drive tour from Vancouver to Calgary is priced from £995 per person excluding international flights.

Cox & Kings' senior product manager Nigel Hosking says, “I am delighted to introduce this new brochure into Cox & Kings' extensive portfolio. From the icy wildernesses around Churchill and the spectacular mountain scenery of the Rockies to maple forests and vineyards in the east and a beautiful coastline, Canada is certain to offer something to suit every traveller. We have a selection of non-exclusive group trips that can be taken on their own or as part of a longer trip. Canada lends itself perfectly for a self-drive holiday, allowing for independent travel at your own pace, and there are some fantastic options for exploring the country by rail and the coastline on a cruise.”

WESTERN CANADA An ideal suggestion for a first time visit, Classic Western Canada is an 11-day self-drive private tour priced from £995 per person. Beginning in Vancouver, the itinerary drives along some of the world's most scenic roads from the Pacific coastline, through spectacular national parks to the rugged mountains and glaciers of the Canadian Rockies. Between Jasper and Banff, a trip on the Ice Explorer to the Columbia Icefield is included as well as a ride on the Banff gondola.

Vancouver to Banff on the Rocky Mountaineer is a 5-night trip on Canada's most famous train and is perfect for incorporating into a longer itinerary. In 2014, 60% of all of Cox & Kings' bookings for Canada included the Rocky Mountaineer. The 6-day trip is from £995 per person with cabin upgrades available.

Passage through the Rockies is a 12-day non-exclusive group tour priced from £1,895 per person. Discovering the best of western Canada by coach, the tour showcases the magnificent scenery of British Columbia and Alberta and is accompanied throughout. There is an option to upgrade to an overnight stay on the Rocky Mountaineer.

EASTERN CANADA On the eastern coast, the sparsely populated provinces that make up Atlantic Canada are known for their high quality seafood and a mix of cultures. The region has French ancestry, evident in its language and heritage, and a holiday here will reward visitors with remote beaches, historic towns and unspoilt coastal scenery. Atlantic Canada Explorer is a 14- self-drive itinerary priced from £1,395 and includes the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

ARCTIC Tundra Buggy Polar Bear Experience is a short 5-day non-exclusive group tour offering a rare opportunity to spot polar bears in their natural environment on board the travelling Tundra Buggy Lodge. There are three departures in October and is priced from £2,775 per person including two nights on the buggy. The buggy lodge is comprised of specialised cars, which, when linked, stretch almost 100 metres long and roll slowly along the Arctic tundra in search of wildlife. On board, there are two sleeper cars for up to 38 passengers, a lounge and dining cars. In the evening, guests have access to open decks between the cars to spot polar bears and the northern lights (conditions permitting).

With 24-hour daylight during the summer months, the Arctic Watch Wilderness Lodge is the easiest way that a visitor can be an explorer, without the qualifications and training. 500 miles north of the Arctic Circle on Somerset Island, the remote waterside lodge provides a base to explore the surrounding mountains, lakes and tundra on foot, by kayak, mountain bike, or jeep. The area is rich in wildlife with up to 2,000 beluga whales nursing their young in the inlet during the summer, as well as muskox, Arctic foxes, caribou and occasionally polar bears. A 10-day stay at the lodge, including the 4 ½ hour flight from Yellowknife, is priced from £5,870 per person.

During the winter, the Northwest Territories offer some of the best Northern Lights sightings. At their best from December until March, Cox & Kings recommends a 3-night stay in Yellowknife, which is priced from £675 per person including two aurora-viewing excursions, a city tour and diner.

NEW: ALASKA New to the Cox & Kings range for 2015 is Alaska.  Sparsely populated, the region has a magnificent coastline, towering mountains, national parks, calving glaciers and superb wildlife. Most popular to visit between May and August, it is well connected by road, rail and air, making it an easy destination to explore. Cox & Kings' new 9-day Highlights of Alaska self-drive tour is from £1,495 per person with car hire. Travelling from the coast to the mountainous interior and back again, there is plenty of incredible scenery including national parks, glaciers, wildlife and culture making it a superb overview for guests who wish to travel independently. Alternatively, it is possible to board the Alaska Railroad and travel the 756km from Seward to Fairbanks staying in local accommodation each night. The 9-day journey is priced from £2,145 per person.

Alaskan Adventure is a 16-day non-exclusive escorted tour priced from £3,445 per person combining travel by land and sea. Beginning with a 7-night cruise from Vancouver up the British Columbian coastline to Seward, guests disembark and join a coach tour to explore Alaska. Visits to the scenic Denali National Park, Fairbanks and Anchorage are among the highlights.

All prices include excursions and accommodation with meals as specified. Car hire is included in self-drive itineraries. International flights and transfers are excluded from the price but can be arranged.

NOTES TO EDITORS

Cox & Kings is the world's longest established travel company. Its history stretches back more than 250 years to 1758 when Richard Cox was appointed regimental agent to the Footguards (later the Grenadier Guards). The company's fortunes grew hand in hand with the British empire and by the early 20th century the company was acting as agent and banker throughout the armed forces and as a shipping agent. In 1922 Cox & Co merged with the Henry S King bank, which had strong connections with India. The bank became part of Lloyds and the shipping agency grew separately, evolving into the modern travel company.

Today, built on the high quality service and attention to detail established by Richard Cox in the 18th century, the company continues to flourish as an independent tour operator, with operations in London, the US, Japan, Australia and throughout India. Cox & Kings organises escorted small-group tours and private tailor-made travel in the Indian Subcontinent, Latin America, the Middle East, the Far East, Africa, Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, and the Caribbean.
