This year Chiddingstone Castle will hold their popular annual Country Fair on Sunday 14 September 2014 between 11am and 5pm.
The fair, which is set in the idyllic rural setting of Chiddingstone Castle and its attractive grounds and lake, will celebrate the traditions of our countryside and the country sports associated with it.
A packed programme of exciting and interesting activities and displays will take place throughout the day including the entertaining Dog & Runner Duck Show.
New for this year is the Side Saddle Association's 'Rotten Row' display featuring a promenade of horses with riders in elegant costumes.
There will be plenty of fun classes to enter your dog into at the Exemption Dog Show with rosettes presented to the winners.
Visitors can also enjoy displays in front of the Castle by the Old Surrey, Burstow and West Kent Hunt hounds and horses, together with falconry and gundog training.
Or why not try your hand at fly fishing on the lake?
The Kent Smallholders will have sheep and poultry for visitors to handle and admire, and the farrier and blacksmith will be demonstrating a range of traditional skills.
Tractors, both old and new, will be on display and the ever popular terrier racing will also be returning – so please bring along your terriers!!
The beer tent will be selling Larkin's Ale, brewed in Chiddingstone, and refreshments can be purchased from a number of stalls selling home-produced food. The band 'Last of the Wild' will be performing next to the beer tent.
There will also be some fantastic shopping in the marquee with stalls selling local art, produce, antiques, vintage ware and pet products.
After a full day's entertainment everyone will be invited to enter the hugely entertaining family giant wool sack race.
There will be a charge on the gates of £4 for adults and £1 for children aged between 5 and 13 (under 5's free). The Castle will be offering reduced admission throughout the day for visitors to admire the fascinating collections of Japanese, Ancient Egyptian, Buddhist, Stuart and Egyptian artefacts acquired by the late antiquarian, Denys Eyre Bower.
The Tea Rooms will remain open throughout the day so don't forget to try the legendary Chiddingstone Cream Tea!
