National holiday letting specialists holidaycottages.co.uk have today announced record booking levels for 2015 so far.

The figures are over 26 per cent higher than last year, showing that despite a weakening euro, the UK staycation industry is booming. The trend is set to continue, with a recent poll showing that over a third of people have yet to book their main holiday this year and will be doing so over the coming months (YouGov Feb 2015).

The survey also revealed that 75 per cent of the UK population have taken or are planning to take a holiday in 2015. For over a quarter a beach holiday is on the cards, while 24 per cent are heading off for a city break.

Holidaycottages.co.uk have scaled up the results of the survey to reflect what would happen if the entire population of the UK took their holidays at the same time.

The resulting visual representation of the UK's holiday plans puts the astonishing figures into perspective.

Featuring in the graphic are facts such as it would take 421,875 tubs of ice cream for everyone planning a beach holiday to have a 99, and if those planning a sight-seeing trip were all waiting for the London Eye, the queue would be 235 days long. 

By representing the figures in ways we can relate to, the company plan to show just how much of a holiday nation we are.

While many are planning holidays abroad, it's true that more and more people are discovering holiday destinations in the UK itself.”

Due to the increase in demand, the company are looking to welcome new owners in popular holiday areas, including the Lake District, Yorkshire, Norfolk and the South West.
