Sands ECO360° green initiative continues focus on conservation

                                                               

(Macao, March 23, 2013) - The Cotai Strip Resorts and Sands® Macao all turned off their exterior facades and non-essential lights for one hour Saturday night at 8:30 pm, joining businesses and homes around the world for the annual global Earth Hour event.

 

"Sands China is again proud to join a worldwide endeavour in environmental awareness by participating in Earth Hour 2013, marking our fifth year of participation," said Mark McWhinnie, Senior Vice President of Operations of The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel and Sands Cotai Central.

 

In addition, a total of 15 Macao hotels are now participating in the Sands China initiative to extend Earth Hour to every month of the year, following the January 17 lights-out by Sands® Cotai Central's Conrad Macao, with The Venetian® Macao, Four Seasons Hotel Macao, Sheraton Macao Hotel, Cotai Central, Holiday Inn Macao Cotai Central and Sands® Macao Hotel joining up in February.

 

The ambitious and impactful initiative is part of the ongoing environmental sustainability efforts of Sands ECO360°, the global green initiative of Sands China's parent company, Las Vegas Sands Corp.

 

Conrad Macao will now turn its lights off twice each month, its 'I Will If You Will' challenge having been met. The hotel had proposed that if 10 other hotels in Macao joined the monthly lights off, it would in return increase its commitment by going dark twice a month.

 

Earth Hour is an annual global event each March that encourages households and businesses to turn off non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness on climate change.

 

With various energy-saving measures in place under the Sands ECO 360° green initiative, both The Venetian Macao and Sands Macao have earned the Macao SAR Government's prestigious Macao Green Hotel Award.
