Cosmos Tours & Cruises is the first UK tour operator to launch Fathom, the specialist range of social impact cruise experiences, in the Dominican Republic.

Fathom, the newest cruise brand within Carnival Corporation & Plc, provides travellers with a valuable and meaningful holiday experience that makes a difference to the lives of people living in local communities in the Dominican Republic.

Depending on their interests and skills, travellers will work as a team alongside local residents and community development organisations on a number of projects focused on economic development, education and the environment on the island.

Run over a three day period, impact activities include:

• conversational groups with local students to help improve their English for increased chances of long-term employment
• helping a women's co-operative with chocolate production and packaging to increase productivity and sales so they can create a sustainable business model and afford to hire more local people
• delivering water filters to improve the standard of drinking water for local families
• taking part in running creative workshops for local students to enjoy arts, crafts and drama resulting in higher self confidence amongst participants

Fathom's Adonia, sailing from Miami to Amber Cove in Puerto Plata on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, provides a stylish and comfortable base with a range of facilities. Passengers will have time to explore the tropical island's mountains and beaches, learn about a different culture from local people as well as relax aboard the ship.  Exciting shore excursions include deep sea fishing, reef snorkelling and canopy zip-line adventures. During the sailing to the Dominican Republic, on-board activities and cultural orientation will prepare travellers for their impact experience on the island.   

The 10 night city stay and cruise holiday is priced from £1429pp (22 September 2016 departure) to include return flights to Miami, a three night pre-cruise stay at the Aloft Hotel South Beach on a room only basis, local excursions in Miami, a seven night full board cruise aboard Fathom's Adonia with all social impact travel activities and overseas transfers.   Departures are available fortnightly from August to November 2016 with 2017 departures due on sale shortly.
