Scenic Rail Britain

Three Little Birds PR has been appointed by Community Rail Network to support its tourism initiative, Scenic Rail Britain, and their Summer Days Out are Better by Rail campaign due to launch in June 2021. Community rail is a grassroots movement spanning Britain, made up of local partnerships and volunteers helping communities get the most from their railways and promoting sustainable travel.

Delivering a press office service and content creation, Three Little Birds PR will support the nationwide awareness drive to help Brits get back on track this summer and embrace sustainable leisure journeys across the UK.

Providing inspiration and information, the Scenic Rail Britain website is the go-to reference and planning tool to discover more about scenic rail rides in England, Scotland and Wales. Including both mainline scheduled services and heritage railway experiences, day-trippers and holidaymakers can plan trips throughout Great Britain to coastal, country and city destinations.

Alice Mannion, Tourism and Heritage Officer at Community Rail Network said, “We're excited to work with Three Little Birds PR. Sheila's in-depth knowledge of the rail tourism sector, her connections and her enthusiasm for the campaign are refreshing and reassuring. This added expertise will help us in our more immediate goal; regaining the public's confidence to travel by train, explore further using the rail network and make a conscious decision to substitute a car trip with a relaxing rail journey ”.

Sarah Chilton, Head of Communications and Policy added, “Our upcoming campaign aims to support the train operating companies recover their passenger numbers and welcome aboard new travellers. Three Little Birds PR has been key in the initial development of the campaign, and we look forward to working with them as we embark on raising awareness”.

Media wanting to jump aboard the campaign; writing about rail tourism, UK tourism, short breaks and staycations, destination-features, heritage railways, sustainable travel etc. can contact connected@threelittlebirdspr.com for more information.

Press travel requests (for complimentary rail journeys) will be reviewed articles dedicated to rail travel in Britain or will include a How To Get There mention of the train operating company and the awareness campaign, railroaded by Scenic Rail Britain.

Notes for editor

Scenic Rail Britain

Since launching in 2017 the Scenic Rail Britain website, www.scenicrailbritain.com, has provided hundreds of thousands of visitors with inspiration to take sustainable leisure trips by rail. Scenic Rail Britain (SRB) showcases the diverse blend of Britain's tourism landscape and highlights the benefits of responsible travel through inspiring itineraries and journey plans using community railways.

Scenic Rail Britain is the tourism division of Community Rail Network and aims to inform and inspire tourists and day-trippers to explore Britain by rail.

Community Rail Network

Community rail is a unique and growing movement comprising more than 70 community rail partnerships and 1,000 volunteer groups across Britain that help communities get the most from their railways.

Community rail is about engaging local people at the grassroots level to promote social inclusion, sustainable and healthy travel, wellbeing, economic development and tourism. It involves working with train operators, local authorities and other partners to bring improvements to rail services and stations, with improved accessibility and inclusion, and help communities to have a voice in rail and transport development.

Community rail is evidenced to contribute high levels of social, environmental and economic value to local areas. Studies estimate that volunteer activity alone is worth £33.2m annually in social value, and rail patronage has risen markedly on community rail lines, while countless stations have been transformed. Qualitative evidence also shows profound, life-changing implications such as for individuals supported to start using rail to access new opportunities.

Established in 2000, Community Rail Network supports those working and volunteering in community rail and their partners. We share best practice and connect community rail partnerships and groups together while working with governments at different levels, the transport industry, and the voluntary sector to champion community rail and share its insights on sustainable and inclusive transport development.
