Visitors to P&O Australian Resorts Dunk Island will soon be golfing 18 holes on a paradise island with the Great Barrier Reef and natural rainforest as a backdrop. The 18-hole resort course will be playable in Summer 2003, when it will become the only island golf course in Australia, enjoying spectacular Coral Sea and island views.
P&O Australian Resorts has enlisted the help of Scott Dowdle who maintains Queenslands leading international championship course, Laguna Quays, to devise the course layout and design without compromising a keen golfers enjoyment and competitive streak.
Located in a National Park within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, Dunk Island has had to meet stringent environmental guidelines for all its developments. The golf course has made clever use of the topography and was created without the need for major earthworks or extensive planting of imported grasses.
The nine-month project is designed to use the islands natural water features and the surrounding rainforest as a natural backdrop, whilst adding boardwalks and other elements to add interest to the course.
Dunk Island has a wide range of water and land sports and other recreational activities to please guests of all ages, most of which are included within the holiday price, as is breakfast and dinner daily, making it exceptional value for money.
Accommodation on Dunk starts from AU$228 per adult per night (approx 76). A five night Holiday Plus stay totals just AU$780 per adult (approx 260), with no hidden extras. (Special rates are offered to children aged from 3 to 14 yrs: those under 3 stay free).
