Toronto, Ontario, Canada (August 19, 2015) – With a new experience around every corner all year long, Ontario is truly always yours to discover. The Canadian province's scenic open roads lead to breathtaking scenery, cozy country towns, as well as hip and happening cities like the cosmopolitan Toronto and Canada's charming capital, Ottawa. Now that the U.S. dollar is holding up strong, a weekend adventure to visit our neighbors to the north just got that much easier. From award-winning wineries and world-class cuisine to fun festivals and sporting events, here are just a few of the reasons to book a trip to Ontario now:
Affordability and Accessibility
One of the most compelling reasons to consider Ontario for your next vacation: the most favorable exchange rates for U.S. consumers in six years. The Canadian dollar exchange is 15% less than this time last year, providing financial incentive to head just across the border. Unlike some vacation destinations abroad, a long flight isn't required. Non-stop flights to Ontario are available from dozens of U.S. cities, transporting travelers to the Canadian province in no time. For road warriors or family vacationers, driving is also a possibility. And, with lower gas prices this year, taking the trip is more convenient than ever.
The Wine
It's quite possible you have already sampled signature offerings from one of Ontario's distinct wine regions – Niagara Escarpment and Twenty Valley, Niagara-on-the-Lake or Lake Erie's North Shore and Pelee Island – so allow us to introduce Prince Edward County, one of Ontario's newest winery destinations. As Eastern Ontario's vacation playground located just west of Kingston, “The County” (as the locals call it) boasts sensational vistas of Lake Ontario in every direction. Grab a map and graze your way along the Taste Trail where you can find just-picked fruits and vegetables, locally-raised meats, artisan cheeses, homemade treats and signature sweets to pair up with award-winning Prince Edward County wines, ciders and craft beers. Consider checking out (or checking in at) the brand new Drake Devonshire, recently named to Travel + Leisure's 2015 “It list” and the first outpost of Toronto's popular Drake Hotel.
Easy Planning
Ontario Tourism has introduced the new online Trip Planner, a one-stop shop for those who never want to stop exploring the region. The Trip Planner includes a step-by-step planner, suggested itineraries and a feature that allows users to customize their trips and discover their own experiences. Map a trip route and see points of interest around a destination for attractions, accommodations, events and packages.
Custom trip plans can be saved, shared and edited.
