Cliffhanger Festival is returning to one of Sheffield's biggest green spaces, Millhouses Park, on the 11th and 12th of July this year. The event, which is suitable for all ages, inspires visitors with demonstrations in a range of outdoor sports by the professionals, and then gives them the chance to try the sports themselves. Events range from outdoor photography to rock climbing, diving to mountain bike trials. Entry is 5 for adults, free for children, and most events are then free to watch and try.
Last year, 15,000 visitors enjoyed the festival, which is organised by Sheffield City Council in partnership with Heason Events. Sheffield was the UK's first National City of Sport; a status Cliffhanger enhances through hands-on fun. Sports include rock climbing, orienteering, kayaking, mountain biking, running, skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, free running (parkour), scuba diving, angling, kite flying and caving. There will also be assault courses, a massive bargain area, music, plenty of children's rides and other activities, food stalls, a market, and much, much more... The British Bouldering Championships will once again be taking place at Cliffhanger - around 200 of Britain's top boulderers will be battling for titles - juniors on Saturday, Seniors on Sunday.
New for this year: an adventure race, an urban fell race and a Trailquest (orienteering on mountain bikes). The Orndance Survey are bringing the largest map of England and Wales in existence. Walk around and spot your house on it! For full details of confirmed events, exhibitions, demonstrations and freebies, keep your eye on the website from here on in, as it is updated daily
