Veuve Clicquot returns to Thredbo this winter for Clicquot in the Snow 2013, a celebration of two of life's great pleasures, Veuve Clicquot and après ski.
ABOUT CLICQUOT IN THE SNOW
Clicquot in the Snow first hit the slopes in Aspen in 2007. Since then, it has grown in popularity, with the best bars, clubs and restaurants in the best ski villages joining in this fabulous celebration of the winter season.
With the Australian ski season set to open on 8June 2013, expect to see Thredbo Village turn "Clicquot yellow" with Veuve Clicquot as the après drink of choice. For the fourth year, Veuve Clicquot will partner with the Thredbo Alpine Hotel and The Denman Hotel & Spato ensure that Thredbo is the only place to be for fun-packed, luxurious days with a Clicquot twist.
The Clicquot action is both on and off the mountain this year. Skiers can take a break with Clicquot On Piste Brunch Sessions at Kareela Hütte, then after a hard day's skiing, chill at the Clicquot Après-Ski Sessions, held daily at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel and The Denman Hotel. With guest DJs, lots of giveaways and prizes, Clicquot by the flute and Clicquot chalet decor, these sessions are the social hub of Clicquot in the Snow.
Clicquot in the Snow Feature Week
29th July - 4th August 2013
Clicquot in the Snow culminates in a week-long winter festival, kicking off on Monday 29th July with seven days of fabulous Veuve Clicquot activities. During this week, the Clicquot action is non-stop, with a daily calendar of Clicquot-inspired events and experiences in and around Thredbo to choose from.
New to the festival this year are Clicquot High Tea Sessions at Eagles Nest, Australia's highest restaurant with sweeping views of Thredbo. Another addition is Clicquot Snow Croquet, an event that is bound to be a highlight of the season. Played with hoops dug into the snow and Clicquot yellow mallets and balls, the inaugural snow-quet championship game will be held from 12.30pm on Friday 2nd August at Merritts.
On Saturday 3rd August guests will experience a Clicquot-inspired al fresco fare at the Clicquot Snow Picnic, a gourmet picnic hosted by The Denman Hotel & Spa, set amidst the breathtaking Alpine scenery at Dead Horse Gap. And for those who enjoy the art of culinary Cliquot matching, there are delicious Clicquot Degustation Dinners at restaurants around the village throughout the week.
For those with a competitive streak, the Clicquot Classic Ski Race is not to be missed. This is a downhill race for enthusiastic skiers and snowboarders to be held on Wednesday 1st August, with plenty of off-piste action for the Clicquot enthusiasts as well. Those whose skills lean more to social than athletic will undoubtedly prefer the legendary Clicquot in the Snow Celebration Party, an evening of Clicquot fun, cool music, photo opportunities of a faux Clicquot ski lift and lots more.
About Thredbo
Thredbo is one of the best known ski resorts in Australia. Situated in the NSW Snowy Mountains, Thredbo sits at the base of Mt Crackenback, in Mount Kosciuszko National Park. Widely considered to be the best resort in Australia, Thredbo has Australia's greatest vertical at 621 metres, and the country's longest ski runs when the mountain is fully covered by snow. With over 700,000 visitors anually, Thredbo is a very popular alpine resort, easily accessible from both Canberra and Sydney.
With runs for all abilities, Thredbo is a popular ski resort for beginners to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with the majority of the runs (67%) suited to intermediate skiers. Thredbo also features a number of terrain parks for all abilities, from 'Wombat World' for the kids, to the 'Advanced Park', as well as a ridercross. Every Thursday and Saturday night during July and August, the resort stays open late for twilight riding until 7pm, which is a novel experience for many visitors. Thredbo resort has 14 lifts and over 50 ski runs. More than 65 hectares of trails is covered by the most advanced snow-making facilities in the southern hemisphere, which allows most the mountain to be used most the time, even in a bad season.
Thredbo was modelled on a European ski town, with on-snow accommodation and a charming alpine village atmosphere. Thredbo village sits at the base of the resort, and has great facilities including a world-class leisure centre, great shopping, and a wide range of dining options and nightlife.
Thredbo has over 2,500 car park spaces for visitors, and most accommodations also have parking available. Getting around in the resort is easy, with a free shuttle bus operating throughout the village, till late.
