Exploring some of Germany's most beautiful Christmas markets has become much easier: After last year's successful launch of the 'Christmas Wonderland Saxony' app, Saxony Tourism has now released an updated version to coincide with the opening of the region's numerous Christmas markets. The app can be downloaded for free from Google's Play Store and the App Store.
Travellers will find information about over 50 Christmas markets, selected seasonal events and specific Saxon Christmas traditions. The app is available in English, German and Italian and allows searching by date, location or region as well as creating a list of favourites including a corresponding route plan. For all those selfie maniacs out there, a new feature enables users to send e-cards via e-mail or share them on Facebook, using either their own Christmas market images or motives that are preloaded on the app.
Apart from being home to Germany's oldest Christmas market in Dresden (since 1434), Saxony is also famous for the unique wooden Christmas decorations and toys produced in the Ore Mountains. Sights such as the Toy Museum in Seiffen or the 'Factory of Dreams' in Annaberg-Buchholz with its displays of Ore Mountains folk art are also featured in the Christmas Wonderland Saxony app. As an additional resource, Saxony Tourism's dedicated online Christmas hub provides further information on the unique variety of Christmas traditions and events in the region.
