Science has proven the way to any person’s heart is through chocolate.
Chocolate is one of those tastes that really never goes away with age. It can make you happy, comfort you or even warm you up on a cold winter’s day. Luckily, the Lake Erie Shores & Islands region of Ohio has a plethora of cacao-loving establishments that shower visitors year long with delectable, culinary confections.
Tres Sorelle Cioccolato is a quaint shop located blocks away from the historic waterfront of Sandusky, Ohio, that offers up every type of chocolate one could desire. Whether it’s surprising the handyman in your family with their signature Chocolate Tool Set, salivating over a box of espresso truffles, or sampling the unique Ohio buckeyes, Tres Sorelle makes it impossible to go home empty handed.
Further east resides Brummer’s in the scenic harbor town of Vermillion, Ohio. Originally located in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1904, this classic chocolate store is over 100 years old and continues the tradition of making everything by hand. Now whether that’s a hand dipped ice cream cone or one of their renowned German chocolates, the choice is up to you.
Back in Sandusky the chocolate-based tour train ends at North America’s largest indoor water park, Kalahari. Just inside the main lobby sits the Candy Hut, a local favorite and hidden Shores & Islands gem. The Candy Hut’s main features are hand-dipped chocolates, fabulous caramel apples, homemade fudge, salt water taffy, and Wisconsin’s award-winning “Chocolate Shoppe” ice cream. Just be careful if you have little ones in tow, they may never make it past the water slides.
So next time you’re looking for a unique experience, prepare for your next winery tour and go chocolate bar hopping.
