Specialist Latin America and Antarctica tour operator Chimu Adventures today release their new tour Peru's Ultimate Eco Experience which visits the Manu Biosphere Reserve, featured in Charlie Hamilton James' new BBC2 series 'I Bought a Rainforest' aired on Sunday at 8pm.
Wildlife photographer, cameraman and TV presenter Charlie Hamilton James' new BB2 series takes the viewer on a journey of his quest to protect the rainforest from the threats of gold mining, illegal logging, cattle ranching, cocaine farming and oil and gas exploration. In the program he promotes the work of the CREES Foundation a not-for-profit conservation, research and education organisation operating in The Manu National Park the depths of the Peruvian Amazon.
The Manu Biosphere Reserve – within the Amazon River Basin in south western Peru – is widely regarded as the most bio diverse place in the world and one of the greatest wildlife and tropical rainforest experiences in Latin America. A total of more than 1,000 bird species, 200 mammals and more than 15,000 plant species have been identified.
Chimu Adventures' new tour Peru's Ultimate Eco Experience recognises Manu Biosphere Reserve as one of the country's key highlights alongside Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu and the importance of travelling responsibly. The tour, after visiting the reserve, heads back to civilisation – Cusco – with a chance to explore the city and gain a wonderful insight into the country's people and culture. The hotel, Los Niños, opened in 1998 to raise funds for the Niños Foundation which offers assistance to over 600 neglected children in the Cusco area. Following an unforgettable journey through the Sacred Valley, the journey continues to Machu Picchu. The Rupa Wasi eco-lodge on the edge of Machu Picchu's protected nature sanctuary is built from sustainable materials, uses alternative energy sources and only biodegradable products; the perfect place to reflect on this fantastic adventure.
Chimu adventures' 11-day 'Peru's Ultimate Eco Experience' itinerary starts from £2040 per person. The responsible tourism focused itinerary includes three nights in the Manu Biosphere Reserve, four nights in the Inca capital Cusco and two nights at mysterious ruins of Machu Picchu. The price includes international flights from London and internal flights from Lima to Cusco, airport transfers, excursions with specialist guides and accommodation.
