Chewton Glen scoops three awards in the Hoteliers
The Caterer launches list of Top 100 Hoteliers' Hotels
The inaugural Top 100 Hoteliers' Hotels list has been unveiled this week, featuring the favourite hotels in the UK as voted by the best hotel operators in the industry.
The Caterer, the leading publication in the hospitality and catering industry, in partnership with Sky, asked the UK's top hoteliers to reveal their favourite hotels across the UK.
Over 100 renowned hoteliers, including Robin Hutson, Thomas Kochs and Philip Newman-Hall, took part and voted for their top three hotels based on any criteria of their choice, followed by their top three in the categories of 'Spa Hotel', 'Countryside Hotel', 'Food Hotel' and 'City Centre Hotel', 'Boutique Hotel' and 'Family Hotel'. The hoteliers also were not allowed to vote for their own hotels or hotels within their group portfolio.
The top 10 features some of the most quintessential hotels in the UK, from classic London properties such as Claridge's and The Dorchester, to the Scottish luxury of Gleneagles. The top hoteliers also recognised newer players in the market with The Pig on the Beach, Ham Yard Hotel and Rosewood London, breaking into the top 20.
The clear favourite was Chewton Glen, taking home two of the six titles, for 'Countryside Hotel of the Year' and 'Spa Hotel of the Year', as well as hitting the number one spot on the top 100 list. Other stand-out winners include Foxhill Manor, in the category of 'Boutique Hotel of the Year', with its enviable homely size, discreet location and locally sourced food in the cosy restaurant.
The award for 'City Centre Hotel of the Year', and third place on the top 100 list went to The Goring. This hotel stands out as one of London's last family-owned luxury hotels and is a favourite of the Royals thanks to its location near Buckingham Palace and its classic English interior features.
Calcot Manor topped 'Family Hotel of the Year' owing to its family-friendly two-floor duplexes, dedicated children's playground, crèche and plentiful outdoor activities; all set in 220 acres of idyllic Cotswolds' countryside. Synonymous with celebrated chef Raymond Blanc, it's not surprising to see Le Manoir was voted into first place for 'Food Hotel of the Year' and second on the 100 list, thanks to its ethical approach to food and two Michelin stars. See notes to editors for a full list.
Amanda Afiya, Editor at the Caterer, said “Hoteliers know their industry, its pitfalls and opportunities best, so who better to ask when compiling a list of the top hotels in the UK? We're lucky to have so many wonderful hotels across Great Britain and we are excited to be launching this list”. The results were launched on the 13th of July at Ham Yard Hotel.
Bronwyn de Cholewa, Director for Hotels at Sky said: “We are proud to be associated with the Hoteliers' Hotels top 100, a prestigious list of the UK's best and finest hotels as voted by the industry's leading professionals. These awards recognise the exceptional level of detail that goes in to ensure every guest has a perfect stay, and so we are delighted to award Chewton Glen the top spot, - along with awards for spa hotel of the year and countryside hotel of the year. From wood-burning stoves to hot tubs on the private deck, and of course Sky boxes in every room, Chewton Glen are exemplars in anticipating their guests' every need. Congratulations to all of you that have been included in the Hoteliers Hotels Top 100 and to those who voted to create this most definitive list of the UK's greatest hotels”.
The exclusive database for the selection was based on Hoteliers of the Year, The Cateys award winners, members of the Master Innholders, Relais & Chateaux and Pride of Britain, to name a few. The results were also independently ratified by a panel of experts including leading hotel journalist Fiona Duncan, senior editors at The Caterer and AA Hotel Inspectors.
