Cheer on Golf's Oldest Major at the World's Longest Pearl Bar

The Somerset on Grace Bay

GRACEBAY, Turks and Caicos – As some of the world’s best golfers tee up in Gullane, Scotland, for the 2013 British Open, guests of The Somerset on Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos will be cheering them on in regal style.

On Sunday, July 21, the final round of The Open, the five-star luxury resort on the world-famous beach will be hosting a British Open Brunch followed by a Golf Challenge at the nearby Provo Golf Club. Sunday’s final round will be broadcast live in Turks and Caicos from 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Guests will follow the excitement of golf’s oldest major with a live viewing of The Open at The Pearl Bar, the world’s longest pearl bar and located at O’Soleil Restaurant at The Somerset. The Pearl Bar will serve $10 mimosas and signature Somerset Sunset Cocktails, created with local organic cantaloupe juice and local Bambarra rum. Also, for every two birdies made on the course, the bartenders at the Pearl Bar will treat guests to free Somerset Signature Cocktail shots.

To fuel up for the afternoon’s round of golf, guests will enjoy a special Hole-in-One Buffet with Bangers and Mash, an array of freshly baked croissants, scones and pastries, traditional breakfast favorites of eggs and applewood smoked bacon, assorted island tropical fruit and more. There will also be made-to-order waffles, buttermilk pancakes and omelets. Buffet is $28 per person and the made-to-order stations are an additional $15 per person, plus tax and service charge.

Following the broadcast of The Open, guests will join the resort’s General Manager for an afternoon on the links. While not the venerated course at Muirfield, the Provo Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course that’s consistently voted within the top 10 courses in the Caribbean. Tee times begin at 2:30 p.m. Green fees, including electric cart, are offered at a discounted summer rate of $110 and Taylor Made rental clubs are also available at a discounted rate.

Golfers will toast the day’s play – their own and the pros – in the Clubhouse Grill where the male and female golfers with the lowest net score will each be rewarded with two free tickets to the Tuesday Night Beach BBQ at The Somerset (a $100 value). There will also be “closest to the pin” prizes.
