Charitable Travel is seeking to unite the travel and charity sectors through its new campaign – ‘Make It Count in 2022’, bringing together the two industries which have experienced some of the worst financial impacts over the last two years to assist one another in their recovery from the pandemic. The social enterprise travel retailer is calling for tour operators, destinations and principles across the industry to share details of their charity partnerships or CSR initiatives, with a view to highlighting some of the amazing work the travel community achieves.
Despite the pandemic creating or increasing financial worries, which led to one in 10 people donating less than usual, one in four people have said they would now increase their donations to charity*. Throughout 2022 each month Charitable travel will be raising awareness of charities and initiatives, connected to themes such as environmental, education, children or LGBTQ+ causes and more, providing a platform for brands to highlight the charitable causes or CSR initiatives they support, linked to that theme.
The ‘Make it Count in 2022’ campaign, which encourages customers to combine the investment in a holiday with donating part of the cost to charity, will celebrate the unsung heroes of the travel industry by highlighting some of the wonderful charitable activities and CSR initiatives supported. These initiatives will be showcased via the Charitable Traveller magazine editorial, PR, social media and digital channels, including the newly launched ‘The Travel Insider Podcast’ series.
In addition, Charitable Travel will be launching a new annual ‘Made it Count’ award, the first of which will recognise those travel companies who have continued to generate great results for their charity and CSR partners during the pandemic. More details to follow soon.
Melissa Tilling, CEO of Charitable Travel commented “The travel industry has a long tradition of supporting charities, but there is often little awareness of the worthwhile causes supported and achievements made. We know that every travel business or organisation has a charity is close to their heart and we want to know who they are!
Our aim is to establish an interconnected web between the charity community and travel world. Not only to amplify the message that travel can be a force for good, but to secure more revenue for both travel companies and charities alike.
Our two sectors have suffered greatly over the last two years, but we see great potential for connecting consumers with the amazing work that the travel industry does and to make it easier for increasingly benevolent consumers to make more responsible choices and ‘make it count’ when it comes to their booking their holiday.”
Charitable Travel, which offers customers the opportunity to donate 5% of the cost of their holiday to a charity of their choice, already provides a unique platform for connecting travel industry partners with the potential pool of customers who are the supporters of its 180+ charity partners.
