Low-income seniors living in the Central Singapore District celebrated Christmas early as part of AccorHotels Singapore's 9th year of community engagement. Through this annual collaboration with Central Singapore Community Development Council (CDC), the 280 seniors were treated to a sumptuous lunch at Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay, and received red packets ahead of the festive season.
Over 1,200 staff from the hotels came together to raise over $15,732 in the last four months through fund-raising activities amongst employees and table sales with vendors. Funds raised will go towards supporting CDC's Silver Outings programme for immobile seniors living in the Central Singapore District. This programme provides these seniors with an opportunity for social interaction through outings to local places of interest, with the help of volunteer groups. With the support of AccorHotels Singapore, the CDC will be looking to scale up the programme in the coming year. Last year, 288 immobile seniors participated in the Silver Outings programme and had the opportunity to visit attractions such as ChinaTown Heritage Centre, Gardens by the Bay, and S.E.A. Aquarium.
Ms Denise Phua, Mayor of Central Singapore District and Guest of Honour at the event, said, “I am heartened whenever I witness sustainable and regular giving by businesses. It is encouraging to see the staff of AccorHotels coming together every year in support of our silver community. Thanks to their collective effort, we are able to bring some much-needed festive cheer to our immobile and disadvantaged seniors this Christmas. Bringing stakeholders together to meet existing ground needs is one of the CDC's key roles, and we are glad to have partners such as AccorHotels onboard this journey of doing good with us. I hope that more companies will actively join us in doing good, even beyond this festive season and on a sustainable basis. ”
Added Mr Kevin Bossino, AccorHotels Asia Pacific Vice President Operations - Singapore, Midscale & Economy Brands. “It is a privilege to be able to spend time with the pioneers of Singapore and more importantly, to see that they are enjoying themselves at this event. AccorHotels, Singapore's largest hotel operator, places strong emphasis on our community and environmental programmes through Planet 21. While Solidarity Week celebrates its 11th year of giving back globally, in Singapore the 9-year-old initiative underscores our commitment to encourage sustained community and corporate giving.”
