10 Jun 2026
Koh Samui, Thailand, June 2026: In recognition of World Environment Day, Centara Reserve Samui will launch a series of environmental and community initiatives throughout June 2026, bringing together team members across the resort in support of sustainability, conservation, and local community wellbeing.
The month-long programme reflects the resort's ongoing commitment to responsible hospitality and highlights how small, collective actions can contribute to meaningful environmental impact.
Giving Plastic Waste a Second Life
Running throughout June, the return of the P.O.P Fish (Persistant Organic Pollutants) initiative invites team members to contribute clean, washed, and dried plastic items including bottles, food containers, takeaway cups, and other recyclable materials.
Situated on the beach at Centara Reserve Samui, the P.O.P Fish acts as both a recycling collection point and an educational symbol, raising awareness of the impact of plastic waste on marine ecosystems while inspiring more mindful waste management practices among guests, resort team members and the local community. By transforming discarded plastic into a collective environmental statement, the initiative highlights the importance of reducing waste before it reaches the ocean.
Coming Together to Care for the Resort Environment
On 12 June, team members from across all departments will participate in a coordinated resort-wide clean-up effort.
Working together across different areas of the property, the team will focus on maintaining and enhancing the natural environment surrounding the resort, reinforcing the shared responsibility of caring for the spaces in which guests, team members, and local wildlife coexist.
Supporting Marine Conservation Through Blue Crab Release
Marine conservation efforts will continue on 18 June with a Blue Crab Release programme at Baan Tai Beach.
Alongside financial support provided to the local Baan Tai community, team members will participate in the release of blue crabs back into their natural habitat, supporting local ecosystem restoration efforts and helping to strengthen marine biodiversity in the waters surrounding Koh Samui.
As an island destination, preserving healthy marine environments remains an important part of Centara Reserve Samui's long-term sustainability ambitions.
Supporting Local Animal Welfare
The month concludes on 30 June with a visit to a local Dog and Cat Foundation, where team members will contribute both financial support and practical assistance by preparing food for animals under the foundation's care.
The initiative reflects the resort's belief that environmental responsibility extends beyond natural ecosystems to include the wellbeing of animals and communities that form part of the island's wider social fabric.
A Broader Commitment to Responsible Hospitality
While World Environment Month provides an opportunity to focus attention on specific activities, the initiatives also reflect a broader philosophy at Centara Reserve Samui - one that recognises sustainability as an ongoing responsibility rather than a single-day event.
Through environmental awareness, community engagement, conservation support, and waste reduction programmes, the resort continues to seek meaningful ways to contribute positively to the island it calls home.
