Celebrity Chefs and CEOs Joined Forces to Feed 1,000 Sydneysiders in Need

Qantas

On 17 February over 1,000 Sydneysiders in need enjoyed a three course meal when 36 chefs from Australia's top kitchens joined forces with business leaders to deliver the 2014 CEO CookOff event.

The CEO CookOff is a joint initiative of OzHarvest and Qantas that aims to shine a spotlight on the issue of food security and the challenges faced by youth in crisis and Indigenous communities. The event also raised much needed funds for charities OzHarvest, Tribal Warrior and Life Changing Experiences.

Qantas Consulting Chef Neil Perry AM joined other top chefs including Guillaume Brahimi, Peter Gilmore, Maggie Beer and Matt Moran to prepare a gourmet dinner with the help of a team of CEOs. Once prepared business leaders plated and served each meal to the 1,000 guests.

With over $1 million raised in 2013, this year’s event aimed to raise even more which will be shared between OzHarvest, Tribal Warrior and Life Changing Experiences.

At the event Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce will cooked alongside executive leaders including: Shemara Wikranamayake of Macquarie Bank, Annabel Spring of Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Holly Kramer of Best and Less and Michael Wachtel Chairman of Ernst & Young just to name a few.

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said he was looking forward to once again representing Qantas to help raise awareness of such important issues.

“Tonight brings together people from all walks of life to share a meal and help raise awareness of the important social issues of poverty and homelessness,” said Mr Joyce.

OzHarvest founder and CEO Ronni Kahn said money raised at the event will allow her organisation to provide more meals and nutrition education to Australians in need, and minimise good food from going to landfill.

“The CEO CookOff is a wonderful example of what OzHarvest does best. We are connectors and tonight we connect business and disadvantaged communities in the most fundamental way - breaking bread together,” said Ms Kahn.
