Dorchester Collection’s luxury country house hotel and spa, celebrates the oncoming summer with the launch of a Meadow Tea in The Drawing Room starting on the second UK May Bank Holiday. Providing a summery update on traditional afternoon tea, pastries and a new, exclusive fragrant hand-blended tea are inspired by flowers that grow on the estate and the view of Coworth Park’s famous wildflower meadow from The Drawing Room windows.
Accompanying the teas on Thursday afternoons – or on request -, Coworth Park’s head of gardens Terri Crow is to launch a series of informal garden walks lasting between an hour and two hours, talking through the history and inspiration behind the Lime Avenue, Sunken Garden, Kissing Cages, Ornamental Terraces and the Wildflower Meadow, and sharing Coworth Park’s planting philosophy.
Pastries, detailed below, are accompanied by estate grown elderflower cordial, a selection of finger sandwiches and scones, and complemented by seasonal homemade compotes: gooseberry and the estate’s Elderflower preserve from May to July, followed by apricot–lavender, and plum-hisbicus from August to October.
Raspberry Rose Battenburg is made with raspberry jelly and rose mousseline, replacing the usual pink sponge cake, inspired by the pinks and reds of Coworth Park's Rose garden influenced by the proximity to Royal Windsor.
Lemon Tart with Poppy seed meringue consists of lemon curd made with white chocolate instead of butter, providing less saturated fat and resulting in a cleaner and sharper flavour.
Blood Orange and Geranium Jaffa Cake offers a luxury version of the classic Jaffa Cake, made with orange sponge, blood orange jelly, orange ganache and Geranium oil.
Pink Grapefruit and Pistachio Tulip is a pink grapefruit mousse on a pistachio financier sponge, shaped in the form of tulip mirroring the flowers in the Ornamental Terrace.
Meadow Tea will be served in the elegant Drawing Room when the meadow blooms, anticipated from June until October, at 2:30pm and 4:45pm, priced at £26 per person or £39 per person for champagne meadow tea, excluding service charge. Garden tours take place on July 4, July 18, August 1 and September 19, or on request, please enquire on reservation.
