Jumeirah Carlton Tower is once again embracing its 1960s heritage, as the nearby Victoria and Albert Museum prepares for the launch of its forthcoming Mary Quant exhibition. The luxury Knightsbridge hotel's Mary Quant Me package is an opportunity for guests to enjoy a 1960s revival lunch in The Rib Room restaurant, 1960s hair styling in the Sassoon Salon on Kings Road and open-entry tickets to the exhibition at the V&A.
Opened in 1961, The Carlton Tower (as it then was) and its Rib Room bar and restaurant were the place to see and be seen amongst Chelsea's socialites. Diners still enthuse about the signature roast rib of beef which has been on the menu ever since. For the Mary Quant Me menu, Head Chef Suveer Anand has revived popular sixties dishes, albeit with a contemporary interpretation. Classic prawn cocktail, duck à l'orange and lemon chiffon pie have all been refined for modern palates for the exclusive set menu.
“As well as being a creative genius, Vidal Sassoon was a formative figure of the Sixties”, so said Quant of Sassoon on his death in 2012. The Five Point cut created by Sassoon in 1963 revolutionised women's hairstyles and became Mary Quant's signature look. His visionary approach to hairdressing lives on in the Sassoon Salon on Quant's beloved Kings Road in Chelsea. Guests booking the Mary Quant Me package will be treated to a blow dry from one of the salon's expert stylists.
On 6 April 2019, the V&A will open the first international retrospective on the iconic fashion designer Dame Mary Quant. The exhibition will explore the years between 1955 and 1975, when Quant revolutionised the high street, harnessing the youthful spirit of the sixties and new mass production techniques to create a new look for women. Jump the queue and visit on any day and time with the open-entry ticket included in Jumeirah Carlton Tower's Mary Quant Me package.
The Mary Quant Me lunch package is available from 6 April 2019 and starts from £94 per person (depending on hair length), including a three-course lunch in The Rib Room Bar & Restaurant, a choice of 1960s-inspired cocktail, a blow dry at the Sassoon Salon and a ticket to the Mary Quant exhibition at the V&A.
