Celebrate Shrove Tuesday In Style With Posh Pancakes!

The Rutland, Edinburgh

Are you bored of the usual lemon and sugar on your annual pancakes? Take inspiration from the award winning pastry chef at the Rutland, who has created two exciting new recipes for the more indulgent pancake.

Amanda Jordan has over twenty years experience as a pastry chef, working in top establishments across the UK and winning medals in various cooking competitions for petit fours, cake decorating, chocolate work, and plated desserts. She wants to make Shrove Tuesday extra special this year and will be using ingredients such as white chocolate, passion fruit, toffee, and calvados in pursuit of the perfect pancake experience.

Amanda says: Pancakes are a popular tradition but it can be tricky finding inspiration for different fillings so this year I decided to create recipes for a more indulgent pancake.

Our crepe souffl with white chocolate and passion fruit is a classic French dessert and, although its not actually a souffl, the filling does rise a little, transforming a simple pancake into a luxurious and interesting pudding. And the apple, toffee and calvados pancake, served with vanilla ice cream, is a delicious combination of flavours. I hope we inspire people to be a little more creative with their pancakes!

Both dishes will be available on The Rutland menu on Shrove Tuesday (16 February) priced at 5. If you fancy trying to make them yourself, visit www.therutlandhotel.com for recipes.
