Three Kings Day (5 January)
The main day of Christmas for Spanish children is not 25 December, but on the night of 5 January, and this is when they receive their presents. In Fuerteventura, crowds of people gather in Corralejo´s harbour, awaiting the arrival of the Three Kings who brought gifts to Jesus when he was born and now bring presents for the children of Spain. The Three Kings arrive by sea and then ride by camel in a procession through the streets of Puerto del Rosario, followed by floats loaded with gifts for the local children. It is a heart-warming family celebration and fascinating for those visiting from outside Spain.
International Music Festival of the Canary Islands (7 January – 5 February)
Now in its 33rd year, this renowned classical music festival brings together over 600 musicians from around the world from 20 symphonic and chamber orchestras, with nearly 80 concerts taking place across the seven Canary Islands. A number of these will be held at venues in Fuerteventura including performances from The Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra.
