Mariposa, Calif. (Aug. 25, 2015) – Yosemite National Park celebrates Founder's Day today by waiving fees to all park visitors. This anniversary will kick off a year-long celebration culminating in the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service in 2016. A “Find Your Park” campaign has been launched to encourage people to explore and recreate in National Parks.
The Founder's Day celebration will include an “interactive village” display created in partnership with REI, the premier sponsor of the “Find Your Park” NPS Centennial campaign at the Yosemite Valley Visitor Center. The village will include a camping lounge, games, historical artifacts, and an Instagram station. The village will be open from 9:00am to 4:00pm and all activities are free to the public.
World-renowned mountaineer, Conrad Anker will be the special guest for the day and will be the Yosemite Centennial Ambassador. Anker will be meeting with visitors from 11:00am-1:00pm at the REI village.
Nearly 100 years ago, President Woodrow Wilson signed the bill to create the National Park Service on August 25, 1916. In celebration of this momentous anniversary the “Find Your Park” campaign encourages people all over the nation to experience their parks.
