Massed plantings of flowering spring bulbs carpet Canberra's popular city park for the month long Floriade festival which kicks off in mid-September.
This mature event – now in its 28th year – draws 400,000 visitors who come to enjoy Australia's annual celebration of spring and see the flowers planted in themed garden beds. The flowers form a backdrop to a packed program of activities including music, dance, food, market stalls and gardening advice.
This spring's Floriade festival is inspired by the theme Reflection – a tribute to the ongoing Centenary commemorations of the First World War. Each of the four weeks of Floriade will have themed activities around the topics of stories, pride, connections and harmony.
This year's garden beds serve as floral tributes to the 100th anniversary of the Anzac landings at Gallipoli, representing iconic symbols of war and peace such as the poppy, the Southern Cross, two-up and the famous slouch hat.
For a different perspective to Floriade, don't miss NightFest (Wednesday 24 to Sunday 28 September), a ticketed night event featuring stellar light shows, live music, comedy and DJs.
