Plus, with fine weather forecast and with average temperatures of 19 degrees in December and January, visitors can make the most of the island's many beaches and hot spots for sporting pursuits, such as cycling, kayaking, diving and paragliding.

Christmas on the streets

Present day – until 5th January 2015

Strolling through Tenerife's towns will be a fun affair this Christmas, as many of the island's urban areas will be decorated with festive lights, with the sound of traditional carols filling the night air. For a traditional seasonal Spanish bite, visitors should sample the many nougats and roasted chestnuts available from the street vendors and craft stalls selling handmade Christmas gifts and nativity figurines are also worth a visit.

II Christmas Golf Tournament

20th December 2014 (Buenavista Golf)

Buenavista Golf, designed by golf legend Severiano Ballesteros, is hosting the second edition of the Christmas Golf Tournament. This popular event is open to golfers of all handicaps and entries to three categories must be received by 18th December. The 18-hole course offers impressive views of the Teno mountain range and the Atlantic Ocean. All golfing participants will be entered into a prize draw to win green fees and a luxury hotel stay.

IX Gospel Canarias Festival

21st December 2014 (Adeje)

The biggest gospel music festival in the Canary Islands will visit Tenerife this December to bring both locals and visitors the best of this style of celebratory music. On Sunday 21st December, US artists 'The Latonius' and 'Mississippi Gospel', together with Canarian performers 'Gospel Shine Voices' and 'Star D Choir', will entertain all ages in a show that will take place in Adeje's Cultural Centre.

Tenerife Symphony Orchestra's XXI Christmas Concert

25th December 2014 (Santa Cruz)

The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra's Christmas Concert is one of the most awaited events on the island, bringing together around 20,000 people. Due to the island's pleasant climate in winter, the concert takes place every 25th December outdoors, on the quay of Santa Cruz. The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1935 and currently conducted by Artistic Director Michal Nesterowicz, is considered to be one of Spain's best symphony orchestras and it is one of the main cultural ambassadors for Tenerife outside of the island.

Jesus Christ Superstar

26th – 30th December 2014 (Santa Cruz)

The famous 1970 rock opera, created by English composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, will bring Tenerife bags of festive cheer this Christmas. The Auditorio de Tenerife, an Opera House built in 2003 and designed by the world-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava, will host a concert which has been adapted into Spanish by Theatre Director Jaime Azpilicueta. The musical 'Jesus Christ Superstar', performed for the first time on Broadway back in 1971, has since attracted millions of people from all over the world.

XXXIII 'San Silvestre' Urban Race

31st December 2014 (La Laguna)

There is no better – and sportier – way to say goodbye to 2014 than participating in the classic 'San Silvestre', an urban race that takes place annually in La Laguna, the island's former capital, on the last day of the year. This popular race gathers together hundreds of athletes and features several categories for all levels of running ability, including a children's race.

Cirque du Soleil's “Quidam”

3rd – 11th January 2015 (La Laguna)

Tenerife welcomes the Cirque du Soleil for the second time in 2015. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of La Laguna will receive over 50 acrobats, musicians and singers who take part in the impressive show “Quidam”. The show tells the story of bored little girl Zoé, who as a result of being ignored by her parents, creates an imaginary world (“Quidam”) to escape the monotony of her daily life. A great number of balancing, juggling and aerial acrobatics will entertain audiences from 3rd to 11th January 2015 in the Santiago Martín Pavilion in La Laguna.
