Celebrate 500 Years of Reformation in Germany on this new history tour
Cambridge, UK, 7 November 2016
Join a leading Reformation historian on tour to follow the life and career of Martin Luther and experience Germany's national anniversary celebrations commemorating 500 years of Reformation.
In 2017 national celebrations and special exhibitions in Germany will mark 500 years since Martin Luther nailed his incendiary 95 Theses to the door of All Saints' Church in Wittenberg, and began a movement that would change the course of European history forever: the Protestant Reformation.
In this special anniversary year Professor Richard Rex – Professor of Reformation History at the University of Cambridge – will lead a unique itinerary for ACE Cultural Tours based in Erfurt and Wittenberg and taking in key sites from Luther's career.
In the Footsteps of Luther: 500 Years of Reformation
August 13–19, 2017; £1825
Visit Luther's birthplace of Eiselben, the Augustinian convent where he spent six formative years of his life, and the magnificent cathedral in Erfurt where he was ordained. Wartburg Castle, the UNESCO World Heritage site where Luther translated the New Testament into German whilst living in exile, will host a special exhibition, as will Wittenberg's Augusteum and the Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin. Along the way, we will soak up the wonderful church architecture and art works reflecting German society's deep religious commitment and practice in the Middle Ages.
