High in the Sierra Nevada mountains and just ten minutes from the town of Truckee lies Sawmill Lake, Northstar-at-Tahoes (Northstar) secluded 10-acre reservoir surrounded by high country ponderosa forest that is every flyfishing enthusiasts dream.
Sawmill Lake is a prime flyfishing location, stocked with hundreds of bright fighting rainbow trout. At an elevation of nearly 8,000 feet, the lake stays relatively cool and supports a large number of trout and diverse aquatic insects. In fact, one of Sawmills unique qualities is that it contains only trout, ranging from 14 to 28 inches long, in its crystal clear waters.
The lake is reserved for catch-and-release flyfishing only. This is the perfect summer lake for float tubing or shoreline stalking. Anglers are sure to catch their fill as fishing at Sawmill Lake is limited to four rods at a time.
Reservations are strongly recommended. Guests can reserve a fishing day by phone or email and must confirm their spot on the lake by paying in advance. Equipment is available at no extra cost and there is a guide on-site daily to provide helpful hints. 2004 Rates (California fishing license required) Half day $75 Full day $110 (All equipment included except leaders and flies) Instruction and Guiding Rates Half day $225 Full day $300 (All equipment included except leaders and flies) Northstar-at-Tahoe is located off Highway 267, just six miles from the North Shore of Lake Tahoe.
