Keep the kids entertained with a stellar line up of events, activities, workshops, tours and more these April school holidays.

Canberra's national attractions will offer a variety of family-friendly activities, catering to all interests and age groups from 8-25 April.

With the April school holidays backing onto Anzac Day (25 April), the Australian War Memorial is a must-visit in Canberra. Experience life as servicemen and women do in Hands-on History (11am, Monday-Thursday during school holidays), where kids can try on uniforms, handle artefacts and discover incredible tales of Australians in wartime. After being inspired by the Hall of Memory, your kids have the opportunity to make their own miniature version to take home as part of the Memorials and Mosaics holiday workshop (10.30am-12.30pm, Wednesday 12 April).

Above and Beyond has taken off at Questacon with a bang. Be among the first to experience this exhibition that explores all things involved in flight, presented by Boeing in collaboration with NASA. Children will have the chance to design and test-fly a supersonic jet, pilot a drone into the eye of a hurricane or experience flight as a bird. Budding 10-15 year old designers, makers, engineers and inventors can also come along to the Ian Potter Foundation Technology Learning Centre for a series of hands-on workshops (10-12 April), where they'll learn how to make an app, create a computer game, design and build a crash test vehicle and more.

The National Arboretum Canberra's Mushrooms and Minibeasts Family Walk (18-21 April) provides an opportunity for young school-aged children to get up close and personal to small creatures and fungi. Older participants aged eight and up can learn the basics involved in potting, styling and caring for a bonsai in a Make your own Bonsai workshop (10-13 April). As always, the Pod Playground is a popular choice for some playtime at the beautiful National Arboretum.

Primary school aged children are invited to become zoo-keepers for a day as part of the National Zoo and Aquarium's Zoocation program. Running between 10-13 April and 18-21 April,  participants spend a day (9am-3.30pm) helping out around the zoo, playing games, making toys for the animals and learning about conservation as they're guided by education guides in this unique program.

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) is offering school holiday camps and programs for a variety of skill levels and sporting interests. The Sports Vacation Program is ideal for beginners, while those wanting to develop their skills in tennis, soccer or AFL, can participate in tailored Training Camps.

Other activities and events to check out include the National Film and Sound Archive's Book Heroes on the Screen film program; the National Museum of Australia's Discovery Space: The nature collector tour and craft session; and the National Gallery of Australia's Tales from the Palace and Creative meditation for children sessions. For kids who love the outdoors, see Australian wildlife in their beautiful natural environment on a guided walk at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve or get the answers to all your dino-loving child's questions during a tour at the National Dinosaur Museum.
