Australia's best selling outbound travel magazine has published the list of the 100 Things to do in Canada Before You Die.
"Canada is such an iconic bucket list destination for Australians, it just made sense to us to produce the 100 Things to do in Canada Before You Die," says International Traveller founder Quentin Long.
The list of 100 experiences was compiled by a panel of Canada experts from around the world. The panel reviewed and voted on a list of more than 650 nominations sourced from travellers and industry.
The No. 1 experience in Canada according to the panel is to Behold the fiery Northern Lights (AKA the Aurora Borealis). "A truly mesmerising spectacle. Like watching God smear colours across the sky," according to Australian based travel writer and 100 Things to do in Canada Before You Die panellist Rob McFarland.
Go wild in Churchill on a polar bear safari made it to no. 2 on the list. The iconic safaris "are like no other in the world" according to German-based travel writer and panellist Cathrin-Birgit Duval, as travellers walk with polar bears from remote lodges dotted on Hudson Bay.
Australians visit British Columbia, Canada's most western province, more than any other province and with good reason according to the list. British Columbia had the most entries on the 100 with 22 different experiences, followed by Alberta (11) and Quebec (10).
"Whistler is almost an Aussie territory with every second person you meet on the mountain in winter or summer from the land Down Under," Long says. "But the rest of British Columbia is littered with phenomenal experiences like; the great wines of the Okanagan valley, the luxury lodges of Vancouver Island or the Great Bear Rainforest, home to the mystical Spirit Bears."
"And then add the beautiful Maritime provinces, the remote and rugged northern Territories or the culturally unique Quebec and you why can see Aussies just love Canada," Long continues.
According to Destination Canada, Australian travellers to the world's second largest nation jumped 6.6% in July this year.
