Canada : Where will you go first ?

As Canada  re-opened its international borders on September 7th, 2021 Destination Canada asked some of the many British  influencers who have visited Canada over the past years for their thoughts on where they would travel to first.  Making sense of what is afterall, the world's second largest country can sometimes be challenging but hopefully these world savvy travellers can help you make some sense of  potential Canada holiday plans.

Newfoundland and Labrador scored highly with Photographer Tom Archer (@tomarcherphoto)   declaring  simply that he  would love to return to Newfoundland, there is so much more to explore and it is such a stunningly beautiful area with the friendliest locals.

And some , like  foodie Karen Booth Boyd of Lavender and Lovage were simply  unable to decide , saying “Definitely Newfoundland, or The Prairie provinces. Two very different places and regions I know, but both pique my curiosity with regards to the local culture, food and traditions, as well as both having enchanting landscapes and the friendliest people I've met anywhere. I really want to return as soon as possible, so I can continue to learn, embrace and enjoy the unique tales and stories that both regions offer. There's so much I still want to do…..from learning about the Viking settlements in northern Newfoundland, revelling in the local food scene in eastern Newfoundland to walking, exploring and cooking with First Nations people in the Prairie provinces”.

Heather Cowper from Heatheronhertravels  said that  having toured around Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, she'd love to explore more of the Maritimes. There's so much history and she loves the cute coastal towns, lighthouses and connection with the sea. She'd like to drive the scenic Cabot Trail along the coast of Cape Breton and make the connection with John Cabot who sailed to Canada in 1497 from her  home town of Bristol.

Famous Instagrammer @Paperboyo  said “I spent a couple of days in the charming harbour village of Tobermory ,on the Bruce Peninsula  in Ontario, back in 2017 and although I did a short boat trip to the Fathom Five National Marine Park, I'd love to go back and spend longer exploring the area and perhaps even camp a night on Flowerpot Island”

Vicky Philpot from  Vicky Flip Flop Travels  declared Whitehorse in the Yukon is fab! “It's a great city in itself, but it's the adventures you can have from there that really make it stand out. In just a short drive you can be in the thick forest, or on the Yukon River. I went on a canoeing adventure down the Yukon River when I was there and I've often thought of it over the past 18 months. We paddled out to a little island and set up an amazing sausage BBQ on the riverbanks, collecting firewood to burn. It felt so outdoorsy, so Canadian and the sausages were all the better for having paddled a few km to eat them. I'd like to revisit that amazing day please!”

Vancouver island was cited by Macca Sharifi from An Adventurous World . He said  “I would love to explore more of Vancouver Island. My last time I was only on the island for 3 days. Even though I packed in a few things like surfing at Tofino and hiking around Cathedral Grove, I know there is so much more to discover. To me, it almost seems like the very best of the Canadian wilderness all in one place. In all my travels, there aren't many places like Vancouver Island that's for sure”

And no surprise that mountains ranked high on people wish lists  with Dave Brett from  Traveldave   dreaming of returning to Jasper in Alberta. “ I was lucky enough to visit in the summer season and enjoyed some incredible hiking and camping and loved exploring the great outdoors of Jasper National Park. It would be great to return in the wintertime so I can try out some of the awesome winter sports activities they have on offer. I've heard the ski powder is phenomenal when they get a snow dump” whilst Chloe from WanderlustChloe   said  “I'd love to plan a post-pandemic trip to Alberta. I visited a few years ago in the winter and it was so beautiful. From riding the Banff Gondola, to hiking to frozen waterfalls and relaxing in thermal springs, it was such a memorable trip. I'd love to plan a return trip in the summer to experience another side to the region”
