WOW AIR LAUNCHES FLIGHTS TO VANCOUVER
Icelandic airline WOW air, has announced a new seasonal route from the UK to Vancouver, Canada, starting in June 2019 - making it the first airline to offer low cost, long haul flights to Vancouver International Airport (YVR).
WOW air's introductory fare to Vancouver, priced from just £129*, will no-doubt encourage visitors to experience all that the city has to offer.
The inaugural flight will depart from London Gatwick Airport to Vancouver International Airport, via Reykjavík, on 6 June 2019. Flights will operate six times per week, from June - October**, with the transatlantic leg of the journey serviced by the airline's ultra-efficient A321neo aircraft.
Launched earlier this year, WOW air will also offer their WOW Premium bundle on London to Vancouver flights. The premium package includes the WOW air Big Seat – a wider seat with a foot rest and 37 inch pitch, priority boarding and Fast Track security clearance when transiting in Iceland, an inflight meal and beverages, two checked bags plus a carry-on and personal items and the ability to reschedule or cancel a booking without incurring a fee.
With daily flights departing from London Gatwick, passengers will be able to connect with the Vancouver service in Reykjavik, which will operate six times per week. The Velvet Restaurant and Lounge, The Josie's full service dining establishment helmed by Chef Marc Andre Choquette, represents the first culinary offering of its kind in the region, serving up locally inspired craft cooking. NEW LIFTS AT WHISTLER
Vail resorts last December announced a historic $66million (CAD) investment at Whistler Blackcomb focussing on 3 new lifts at the heart of the resort. This transformative investment features the addition of a new gondola on the Blackcomb side of the mountain, as well as several other lift infrastructure upgrades providing quicker, easier access to all levels of terrain. A new 10 passenger gondola will replace the Wizard and Solar chairlifts and ascend from the base to the top of Blackcomb mountain, terminating adjacent to Peak 2 Peak Gondola which transports guests to and from Blackcomb and Whistler. The new gondola is expected to represent a 47% capacity increase and move 4000 people per hour, the highest capacity in North America.
In addition to the new gondola, the capital plan also includes lift upgrades in the Whistler Blackcombs family zone , an upper mountain area renowned for Intermediate trails tailored to families. The Family ski zone's Emerald Express four passenger lift will be replaced with a new 6 passenger high speed lift increasing guest up hill capacity by 29% and maximising time on the snow for families on the intermediate learning terrain.
Finally, the existing Catskinner triple passenger lift will be replaced with a four passenger high speed lift increasing uphill capacity by 56% and allowing Whistler Blackcombs guests to enjoy faster, more convenient access to Blackcomb Mountains beginner and intermediate terrain

SILVER STAR MOUNTAIN RESORT REVEAL TO DOPPELMAYR GONDOLA
Silver Star Mountain Resort announced the major investment of a new Dopplemayr gondola from Silver Star Village to the Summit. The project will see the replacement of the existing Summit fixed grip double chair which has been loading guests since the 1980s. The new high speed detachable gondola cabins each provide seating for 8 and the provision of ski and board racks are provided on the outside, on door mounted racks to maximise the comfort of guests ride. The Gondola will feature floor to ceiling glass to provide spectacular views of Silver Star. Initially the lift will have 21 cabins with an uphill capacity of 1200 people per hour with the capacity increasing to 43 cabins as per design in the future. The gondola will service more than 16% of the existing terrain, plus provide the fastest access to the Comet and Alpine Meadow terrain pods from the Village. The gondola installation also facilitates additional capital improvement projects such as the addition of an Alpine restaurant between the Comet and the Gondola lift, installation of a lift in the Terrain Park and options for a summer coaster or pipe.

SUN PEAKS RESORT ANNOUNCES SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENT FOR 2018
A new chair lift providing improved mountain, village and ski in , ski out access highlights a massive development year at Sun Peaks resort. Approximately $60 million in activity will be completed or is underway this year. The new chairlift is a project that has been highly anticipated by guests and locals alike. A new four passenger , fixed grip lift will be installed in the East Village area of the resort allowing for significantly improved guest access to the main village core along with existing ski terrain. The $4 million project has an anticipated completion date of December 2018.
TREMBLANTS NEW LTE AND NEW GLADES ARE WAITING FOR YOU
The opening of new glades covering a 50 acre area and a new trail on the mountain is creating a real buzz. The glades are:
Les Vallons : this 9.6 acre difficult level glade is located in rolling terrain. Nestled half way down the Duncan trail, it is also easily accessible by Le Vanier trail a the mid mountain on the North Side.
Dynagriffe: This trail, located between Dynamite and La Griffe Trails, was already nicknamed Dynagriffe by local skiers and boarders. This very difficult 17.3 acre area is accessible by the Expo Express Lift.
Archipel : Access this 11-acre section made up of islands of trees via the Rope Tow. The bottom section is very difficult and can also be reached from the higher Beauchemin and the Axel.
Extension: this new glade on The Edge covers an acre of 18 acres. Of difficult level, it is the extension of the Reaction glade and allows for a long continuous descent through a wooded area. In the process, the Reaction glade was also expanded.
The installation of a new Lowell Thomas Express (LTE) quad high speed chairlift allowed the opening of a new run under the lift. Its name is therefore the abbreviation of the Chairlifts name. The LTE is a short difficult level 2 acre trail that leads directly to the bottom of the new lift. A new glade area was also cleared near the Boiling Kettle. The fixed grip triple Lowell Thomas Chairlift was entirely replaced with a Doppelmayr detachable quad boosting capacity by 600 skiers per hour.
The resort will also continue to increase snow making capacity with the acquisition of 31 high efficiency snow guns and the addition of a new grooming machine.

RCGS Resolute's inaugural voyage will depart from Ushuaia, Argentina on November 16th, 2018, on the “Antarctica - Off the Beaten Track'” voyage. From there she heads to Costa Rica and Panama, through the Panama Canal and onwards to the North Atlantic, commencing voyages through Scotland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands. She will also host OOE's inaugural Scotland & Ireland Golf Expedition before starting her first season in the Canadian High Arctic.

THE MOST CHARMING THEATRE IN CANADA
In 1982 Greg Wanless together with a group of passionate community members purchased the Gananoque Canoe Club from the Local Rotary Club. Over a few intense months the vintage building was converted into a 360 seat proscenium theatre right on the banks of the St. Lawrence River . The Thousand Island Playhouse (TIP) grew from a three show season with 6000 patrons to an eight show , two venue not for profit theatre that attracts 40,000 patrons annually. One of the top five summer theatre festivals in Ontario, TIP Regional economic impact hit $10 million per year. In November 2012 Ashlie Corcoran took over from Greg, and during her five year tenure she expanded programming to range from large scale musicals to screw ball comedies to contemporary international and classical works. She founded TIPs Playwrights Unit , designed to foster the talent of both emerging and established artists and initiated a series of partnerships with theatre companies across Canada. With these productions Thousand Islands Playhouse and Ganonoque's national presence and profile increased considerably. In late 2017 Brett Christopher was appointed Managing Artistic Director of TIP.
