Award-winning safari specialist, Real Africa has released two special Kenya fly-in safaris offering significant savings, to mark awards-season and to commemorate 30 years since the Oscar-winning film Out of Africa hit the big screen.
The film, which scooped seven Oscars, including best cinematography and best picture, starred Meryl Streep and Robert Redford and was based on the 1937 autobiography of Danish author, Karen Blixen (Isak Dinesen) and was shot on location in Kenya.
The wonderful wild plains of Kenya, captured so beautifully in the film 30 years ago, can still very much be experienced today, says Real Africa's Managing Director, Robert Ferguson. The Masai Mara, 280kms west of the capital Nairobi has a number of private conservancies with small authentic camps and restricted visitor numbers, “In Mara North Conservancy there is 1 guest to around 350 acres”, he says, “this unfenced wilderness is the perfect place to recreate the drama and romance of the film”. In addition, visitors can fly north and get off the beaten track in Kenya with a stay in the rugged hills of Laikipia, or fly south-east to Amboseli and Tsavo in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Starry nights around the camp fire and sleeping under canvas, as experienced by Blixen and Finch Hatton remains one of the great joys of a safari to Kenya. A wonderful diversity of landscapes and flora and fauna coupled with superb atmospheric camps and lodges ensures a premium experience.
Real Africa believes that Kenya is set for a real resurgence in popularity in 2016 and 2017. President Kenyatta has recently announced incentives aimed at boosting tourism to Kenya including capped park fees and removal of VAT on conservation fees which will further ensure that the country be more competitive in the luxury sector.
