TT-Line Company Pty Ltd has installed 46 aircraft-style cruise seats on board the Spirit of Tasmania for the budget traveller.
National Marketing Manager, Melindy Green said market research of TT-Line passengers had revealed a small demand for this type of no frills travel.
The installation of the cruise seats has been approved by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, with the seats being installed on C Deck in the old theatrette she said.
No frills tickets, which include dinner and breakfast, will be available for purchase from 1 September 2001 with one way fares starting from $135 peak season, $112 shoulder season and $105 off peak. These compare favourably to the Spirits hostel accommodation which costs $158 in peak season.
Ms Green said the installation of the new cruise seats provided an extra dimension to travelling on board the Spirit, with passengers being able to make full use of all hotel facilities, including the shop onboard, visitor information centre, restaurants, bars and casino.
The Spirit already provides five levels of accommodation suites, deluxe cabins, porthole cabins, family cabins and hostel accommodation, she said.
The airline-style cruise seats on the Spirit will provide people on the tightest of budgets wishing to travel between Victoria and Melbourne with an affordable travel option.
Similar seats were available onboard the Princess of Tasmania.
Booking can be made from Saturday (15 September) by calling TT-Line on 13 20 10
