Plein air painter, Malcolm Ludvigsen, has been announced as the new artist to be displayed in the Brasserie at The Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa, Bolton Abbey. Plein air painters receive their artistic inspiration directly from the landscape and Malcolm is best known for his Yorkshire seascapes and beach scenes.
'Plein air' is a French phrase meaning to be out in nature and the interior decor of the Brasserie of rich jewel colours complements the vibrancy of Malcolm's work.
As well as being a painter, Ludvigsen is a professor of mathematics. His passion for painting began when he took a sabbatical and started painting for fun. His original interest was sparked by John Ruskin's belief that all men should go out and paint a picture of the sky every morning.
Malcolm lives and works in York, his paintings are in galleries and homes throughout Britain and the USA.
The addition of Malcolm's paintings in the Brasserie comes soon after Charlie Murray joined the Devonshire's chef team, heading up the Brasserie. Charlie brings his own style and take on traditional classics, along with new and exciting dishes added for good measure.
All of the dishes on the varied menu are available at the bar, in the Brasserie or – weather-permitting – on the terrace. There is an impressive selection of wines, available by the glass or the bottle.
