Brits Dream Holiday Companion Is Their Existing Partner, With Holidays Igniting Passion! (Although George Clooney and people who make us laugh also fair well)

In a recent survey* by online travel agent Travel Republic to discover what makes a perfect holiday, when asked about travel companions a massive 78% chose their existing partner as their perfect travel companion.

Partners were chosen above children, parents, siblings, friends and even celebrities, when offered the choice of anyone in the world! So, it seems that romance is in the air, before Valentine's Day has even arrived.

Naomi Wilkinson, Marketing Director for Travel Republic, says, “It is often said that travelling together can make or break a relationship, but it seems we are a nation of strong bonds, as when it comes down to it, we love to travel with our other halves.”

The survey also produced some other interesting insight – when asked about how they celebrate upon having made a holiday booking, 10% of respondents shared the fact that they get intimate with their partner!

Wilkinson continues, “Everyone agrees that the feeling of knowing you have a holiday booked, and setting up that holiday countdown, feels really great. Perhaps booking a holiday can be added to the list of well-known aphrodisiacs, such as oysters, chocolate and chilli?”

Finally, to shed some light on who the nation's well-known travel sweethearts are, of those who did opt for a famous face as the person they'd most like to go on holiday with, George Clooney topped the charts for women, while Joanna Lumley was favourite amongst men – but funny-men also proved popular! With Keith Lemon, Peter Kay, Ant & Dec and John Bishop all receiving multiple votes!

Travel Republic is running a month-long #EatStayLove festival throughout February, to celebrate the things that make holidays awesome, and while love doesn't always have to relate to its common definition (because on holiday it can mean falling a love with a certain culture, doing activities that you love, or a feeling of wellbeing and self-love), it is clear to see that true love is an important aspect of holidays.

#EatStayLove Festival

https://www.travelrepublic.co.uk/blog/eatstaylove

This month marks the 10 year anniversary of Eat Pray Love; the epic novel by Elizabeth Gilbert which inspired many thousands of people to travel more. Not just to the three destinations within the book (Italy, India and Indonesia) but to many others too, and this is a wonderful thing. We love this book because it celebrates the things we enjoy most – travelling, eating and love!

February is the month of love, and because like love, holidays give you that warm, fuzzy feeling – we want to spread the love! Our festival pays homage to the book's philosophy, and celebrates all things travel. All these things go hand-in-hand with splendiferous holidays, fun times and wonderful memories!

NB: Travel Republic's #EaStayLove festival is not in association with, or endorsed by Eat Pray Love the book, its author, or the film.
