Tourism Noosa

In just over a month's time, Noosa will play home to some serious VIP's with the British & Irish Lions choosing the beachside destination for their official Training & Recovery Week as part of the 2013 Lions Tour of Australia.

The team, management and media will visit Noosa for the first week of July for three days of training plus some recovery time for the team.

Members from the British & Irish Lions management including Coach Warren Gatland visited Australia a few months ago and spent time in Noosa to get a feel for destination and refine the team's trip schedule which will see them in Noosa from 30th June to the 4th July.

Coach Warren Gatland was quoted in English newspapers recently saying "There will be plenty to do for both players and fans when we're not all focusing on the rugby. We'll be able to enjoy surfing and paddle-boarding lessons, kayak tours of the Noosa Everglades and great hiking and horse-riding tours. And for a bit of relaxation, there are loads of cafes, markets and top-class restaurants."

Sunshine Coast Councillor for the Noosa area, Councillor Russell Green said "We are honoured to have been chosen as the destination for the British Lions to visit for their training and recovery week.  No doubt the team will be out and about enjoying Noosa and all it has to offer. More importantly it will also provide for a further boost for the economy ensuring local operators are showcased to our international visitors."

Tourism Noosa General Manager, Mr Damien Massingham said "Noosa is a great destination for rugby fans to visit and there is plenty of accommodation and good deals available over this time. We look forward to welcoming visitors and supporters to Noosa."

Celebrating their 125th anniversary tour, the tour takes place every 4 years but only comes to Australia every 12 years and incorporates 6 regional games and 3 test matches in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
