Tenerife most popular destination this season

Booking data at beach holiday specialist On the Beach has revealed the Canary Islands as the most popular destination for sun seekers this winter sun season, with Tenerife the most popular island.

Research has revealed bookings to the Canary Islands are up 6% this winter sun season compared to last with Lanzarote the second most popular destinations this winter season.

Alicante, located in the ever-popular Costa Blanca region of Spain is the third most popular destination this winter season, followed by Majorca and the Portuguese Algarve region.

Destinations on the rise

Overall, Spain is set to reign once again this winter sun season with the Balearic Islands also proving more popular than last year, with bookings up by 20%. This rise in popularity is mainly due to the number of British holidaymakers heading to Ibiza this year with bookings up a whopping 47%.

Malta, the Mediterranean island which welcomes almost two million holidaymakers to its shores each year is also showing a significant increase in bookings this year, up 21% on the same period last year.

Greece, which is a popular summer sun destination for Brits, is also proving popular this winter sun season with bookings up 19%.

The sun-soaked island of Corfu is the most popular Greek Island over the winter sun season, with other islands such as Zante, Rhodes and Santorini also attracting more holidaymakers than last year.

Research conducted by On the Beach has also revealed a growing appetite for long-haul holidays this winter season with destinations such as Goa (India) and Orlando (USA) proving more popular than last year.
