On the eve of the 2008 World Travel Market, the British Guild of Travel Writers holds its prestigious Awards Dinner on 9 November at the Marriott, Grosvenor Square in London. It promises to be, as ever, a glittering occasion with champagne reception, superb dinner, a fabulous charity raffle and the best networking opportunity of the year!

The Tourism Awards given for environmentally sensitive projects that benefit local communities are highly coveted. In the UK category this year the finalists are Liverpools Slavery Museum, BeWILDerwood adventure park in Norfolk and the Thanet Greeters in Kent. In the Overseas category, the finalists are Loanga National Park in Gabon, Highland Paradise cultural village in the Cook Islands and Maltas Palazzo Falson. The Globe Category, for projects with more than 250,000 visitors a year, features the Dinosaur Gallery in Brussels, Muse de Quai Branly in Paris and Ngong Ping 360 in Hong Kong. The winners of each category will be revealed on the night. The attached pdf gives further details of the finalists, which are also available on the Guild website, http://www.bgtw.org.

There is a range of Members Awards for travel journalists themselves, including broadcasters, photographers, authors and journalists, as well as the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, which has been presented in past years to Judith Chalmers, Sir Freddie Laker, Patrick Leigh Fermor, Noel Josephides and Eric Newby.

This years dinner sponsored by Jersey Tourism, Mahindra Homestays and the Holland Art Cities promises to be another glamorous event for the travel industry and is indisputably the best possible way to kick off World Travel Market week.
