• Author Adam Weymouth presents 'Kings of the Yukon'

Author Adam Weymouth, producer Charlie Fripp and director Chris Lucas will be headlining the South West Outdoor Festival this October, sharing tales from their adventures in the wild Yukon territory, Canada.

The three-day National Trust festival, held in Devon from 5-7 October 2018, offers adventure enthusiasts a comprehensive programme of talks, presentations and film screenings. Festival goers will also be able to participate in trail-running races, cycling challenges and a variety of water sports including coasteering, kayaking, swim/runs and paddleboarding.

During the weekend, screenings of The Yukon Assignment (a film about a dad-and-son team from Cornwall canoeing along the territory's mighty rivers) and readings by author Adam Weymouth from his book Kings of the Yukon will showcase this extraordinary, magical and untamed land.

Adam will host reading sessions from his book, published on 15 May 2018 by Penguin, which details his four-month journey canoeing the length of the great Yukon River. Paddling against the King salmon, Adam discovered how their decline is affecting the indigenous communities that have relied on them for survival for so long.

The Yukon Assignment follows British adventurer Chris Lucas (34) and his actor father Niall (64) as they canoe down one of the most remote rivers in Canada. The film is a breathtaking exploration of one of the earth's last wildernesses and the story of how adventure can bring people of all ages together.

Roughly the size of France, the Yukon is home to Canada's highest peak (Mount Logan), UNESCO World Heritage–listed Kluane National Park, over 160,000 caribou, 70,000 moose, 22,000 mountain sheep, 7,000 grizzly bears, 10,000 black bears, 250 species of birds…and only 34,000 humans. Located on the edge of the Arctic Circle, the Yukon is also known for its spectacular Northern Lights shows.

Day passes to the festival are available from £15 per adult and £7.50 per child. Camping pitches for the two nights plus entry to the festival, cost from £50 per adult and £20 per child. Glamping and campervanning options are also available.
