  • Europe still one of the top places to visit this year
  • The introduction of roaming charges won't influence desire to travel
  • Majority haven't postponed travel plans during Brexit uncertainties

A consumer survey of young travellers*, by the world's leading student and youth travel booking site, StudentUniverse, has revealed that 55% of British students and youths remain resilient in the face of Brexit, as they've not delayed travel plans due to uncertainties.

Over 60% of respondents said that a no-deal Brexit wouldn't impact their decision to cancel their holiday to the EU, with just 12% saying it would.

In addition, 45% said that “while it would be a shame to lose the free European Health Insurance Card, it wouldn't stop me for travelling to Europe”; more than double of those who said “I would be concerned that the cost of travel insurance would prevent me from travelling in Europe” (22%) when asked is the loss of the EHIC would impact their decision to travel in the EU.

Sam Willan, General Manager at StudentUniverse said: “Regardless of the uncertainties surrounding Brexit and the affects it could have on travel to the EU, we do still see a fundamental desire from students and youths to explore the world. The survey revealed that 52% of respondents plan to travel beyond Europe for their next holiday or adventure, to the likes of Africa and Asia. This mirrors our bookings too, as we've seen bookings to Africa and Middle East increase by 87% and Asia by 27% since January 2018.”

The survey further revealed that 81% of respondents said that the possible re-introduction of roaming charges, as a result of Brexit, wouldn't influence their decision to travel to Europe; with less than 20% saying they'd be more reluctant to travel in the EU if charges were introduced.

Sam added: “The survey findings have made it clear that student and youth travellers alike remain money conscious when it comes to travel. With the low-value of the pound and its impact on the fluctuating exchange rate, over 70% of respondents said they were concerned about the increased cost of spending money when travelling in Europe.”

“At StudentUniverse, we understand these financial pressures, which is why we're always on the hunt for the best and cheapest flights, offer student rates on hotel bookings and work with our partners to offer adventure tours on a shoe string budget.”
