ScreenLimit

Want to encourage good behaviour, order and even a little peace in the home? Then limiting screen time might be the first step. UK company ScreenLimit has launched an app to help parents manage their children's use of electronic devices. It allows them to remotely control and monitor children's time spent on-screen from a smart phone, tablet or web browser.

ScreenLimit's key feature is a built-in reward system for good behaviour where children can earn 'bonus' screen time by completing set tasks – aside from education goals, the feature encourages children to take responsibility and earn their screen time.

One of ScreenLimit's other highlights is a synchronised timer for all devices and platforms so children can switch between multiple devices but stay on the same time allowance. Parents can also instantly block access to sites, schedule times of the day when devices cannot be used, allow or block specific apps, set schedules and send their children messages, all instantly. They can also set individually tailored daily use limits and send direct messages to their children.

Stephanie Paul, a ScreenLimit subscriber, says about her daughter: “She wasn't too keen, but she was accepting and she quickly began to get motivated by the possibility for earning extra time by doing daily chores (everything from brushing her teeth to unloading the dishwasher). She's also less upset when her time runs out as she can see that it is consistent and on the record – there's not the sense of unfairness there was in the past. Things are calmer now and there are far few arguments.”

ScreenLimit is fully functional and available to download via the app stores or direct from screenlimit.net.  Parents can sign up for a free trial followed by a monthly or annual subscription or make a one-off payment. It is priced per family with unlimited devices and works on Windows PCs and laptops plus iOS, Android and Amazon platforms. Monthly subscriptions offering a full set of parental control features start from £2.99/month, while annual subscriptions (12 months) start from £29.99/year. A one-off payment of £75 will unlock all features permanently, including all future upgrades.
